turbo Whines and Screams... Just rebuilt the turbo

hey guys, i just rebuilt my te04h turbo, new seals, new bearings everything, it was sexy how little the shaft play was.... but stuck her back in today, let it warm up like usual. took it out ( the car was smoking alot becuse my assumptionw as i had no oil restrictor) reason for rebuild in the first place.... so i go and i givver, no boost, just screems, it sounds like ther is something in my engine bay screming, its not spooling, i know what spooling sounds like.... the turbo worked fine before the rebuild, its just that it smoked too much.... anybdoy know the solution?

Its still smoking you said?

My guess is loose charge pipe and I dunno what to say about the noise, you describe it poorly

Re: turbo Whines and Screams... Just rebuilt the turbo

i kno the smoke is due to oil, im pretty sure this will be a simple fix with an oil restrictor, however, it does not boost, and its not the piping, the sound is described as a "loud sewing machine."

If YOU rebuilt it, you probably didn't balance it so the sewing machine noise is probably the wheel scraping the housing. Just a guess.

If the car is just screaming, maybe the wastegate is stuck open. ???

compressor wheel tight? maybe the nut is loose?

compressor wheel is tight, as soon as it starts hitting near boost, it starts up, she spools up, blows off, but it doesnt make boost, and once it starts getting clsoe she scerams, im 100% sure its not my charge piping...

So when she gets close, she screams? That's called an orgasm, laddy.

LOL, I don't.....well I did....I'll leave this one alone, haha.

The turbo wheel is rubbing. Check your housing for scraps.

If the turbo spools, and the BOV discharges, am I mistaken to believe you have boost?

im prettu sure it is the turbo, i took off the exhaust housing yesterday, looked at the fins, and housing, housing looked untouched..... but had ALoT of coking on it, and the fins where shiny on one side.... so im guessing not balanced anymore.

Wow, I said this twice. It needs to be balanced and you didn't and it's building some boost, but next to nothing and there is mad friction because your turbo is unbalanced and scraping the housing.

I see all kinds of blown and worn out turbos in serious need of rebuild.
But the worst turbos I am given to see, the ones with the most costly and unrepairable damage, are definitely the ones which the owner attempted to perform his own "home made turbo rebuild" on.

A friend of mine that is a member on the site bought a T25 and took it apart himself....I'm not sure why, it was brand spanking new....needless to say he didnt have a clue what to do once the housing was off, but he mustve kept taking it apart, because i havent ever seen that turbo again, and now he's running a bigger one. :1

i would like to know why you would rebuild your turbo and put it back in without fixing the problem. its like you like to rebuild them or something. good luck with the problem tho
