turbo timers and cool down

Okay seeing i'm new the the whole turbo'd civic, i was wondering how you guys set your turbo timers, and how long you let yours cool off for. I have an apexi turbo timer, which i usually let run for 30 seconds, but it also has a setting when it can calculate the cool down time. Do any of you guys use this feature, and how do you set it correctly? Just wondering how long i should let it cool down for under different conditions.

When it is set, i run it for 1:30. If I am beating the hell out of the car (drag strip/in-town ------ around) I let it go to auto. :)

Re: turbo timers and cool down

what are you guys running for boost? i'm assuming if you run higher boost, it needs longer cool down?

Re: turbo timers and cool down

7psi....I can fart more than 7 psi and I don't need a timer to let my ass cool down. Just run it for 1:30 and call it good. :)

Re: turbo timers and cool down

Word on the street is, you DO NOT need a turbo timer.
just drive easy for the last mile or so before you shut it off and it`d be fine.

Plus you are not gonner be able to leave it in gear when you park with a timer (must be in neutral)

Do you see a turbo timer on a 911 turbo ?...... NO :-\
Do you see a turbo timer on 24ft turbo truck ? NO :-\
Do you see a turbo timer on a F40?................ NO :-\
Do you see a turbo timer on the STI? ............NO :-\
Can you find a production/exotic car with a turbo timer ...---- NO :D

Re: turbo timers and cool down

ive never seen timers on any real cars lol. i dont even see the point? half of us spent less then 90 bux on the turbo. why spend more on an item to cool it down? replacements are cheap as dirt and chances are the turbo will last longer then ur motor anyway lol i never even ran coolant to any of my turbo setups.

I dont use simply because I ran out of money on my project. But I usually wait about 30 seconds, and park on a hill so the oil and ---- can run out. Now that I read this thread, I dont think I will be buying one either.

Re: turbo timers and cool down

ebay. you can find a greddy full auto timer for cheap. if its fairly cool outside i set it for 1:30, but its over 100 today, so i have been letting it run for 3 minutes just to be safe.

oh, and not all turbos are cheaper than the turbo timer. it really is cheap insurance, and can save you the hassle of having to take everything apart when it could have been avoided.

Well you might need one if you love to drive to ---- out of it then shut it right off. otherwise you don`t need no "cool down time"

Turbo timer IS A MUDA------- SCAM

Do you want to know? Ok, then.... I was going to find a small electric metal pump that I can operate using the turbo timer.... have a line coming from the oil pan and into the turbo....

sometimes that would suck tho like if your late to work so you were pushin your car hard as hell to get there, then you have to wait 1-2 minutes while your car is running when your already late. then your fired. and that didnt save you any money at all!!

Re: turbo timers and cool down

essentially that's what sprung my question because i was late for my algebra midterm the other day and i had to haul balls to get there, and let it cool for like a minute (plus driving it slow for the last half mile) and got me thinking...
