Turbo selection (didnt find what i want to know in the search)
Hey gotta turbo selection question I didnt find anything in the search so if this is asked alot dont get mad. ;D
I am going to be boosting my 98 prelude h22a4. (i know all about the weak ringlands and sleeves) I bought a t04e .57 .63 turbo for my lude and i am planning on running 7 psi (for now). Will the to4e since it makes more CFM than a smaller turbo make more engine internal wear? |
Re:Turbo selection (didnt find what i want to know in the search)
I think psi. is psi. no matter what turbo is making it.There shouldnt be a difference. The bigger exhaust on that will just make the turbo more efficient at high RPMs.A smaller turbo say a .48 would stop boosting sooner than that .63.That .63 should make boost till redline on that engine.

just a regular t04e? not a hybrid? if so, thats waay too big

Re:Turbo selection (didnt find what i want to know in the search)
wrong. 7psi at 200 cfm aint 7psi at 1000 cfm..
CFM is the big number. much like a 6" pipe with 10psi and a 1/8" pipe with 10psi. more volume in the 6" |
Re:Turbo selection (didnt find what i want to know in the search)
I think it will be fine. As for more wear I don't think so. The larger turbo usually produces less heat than a smaller one. We did an SHO, upgraded from a grand national turbo to a TO4B 1.19 turbine, running 16psi non intercooled and it doesn't detonate like the intercooled GN turbo. Non Intercooled 9psi, 347whp. The point is, I don't think you have anything to worry about

Re:Turbo selection (didnt find what i want to know in the search)
a T4 is not to big. Actually for an H22 its about right, especially with the trim specs on the turbo. And the Dr. is right. 7 pounds with a rhb5 is different than 7 pounds with a t88. Think of a squirt gun and a water hose, they may both be putting out 7 pounds worth of pressure, but which is putting out more water? hmmmmmmmmm...........

Re:Turbo selection (didnt find what i want to know in the search)
he didnt say the trim specs, just the a/r's. i guess im not up on h22 turbos...i just think a straight t04e would be too big

35 PSI in your fuel rail is the same as 35 PSI in my plumming pipes. The volume will be the only diference.Otherwise they would need to make boost guages to match the turbo. The boost guage could care less what turbo you have. Its just reading pressure. |
