TURBO REX

Hey guys,

Still working on this damn CRX i just picked up. Getting closer to turboin this car. heres the list of things that i have so far:

Stuff I Have Right Now

- D15 w/ZC 16 Valve non-vtec head swap
- HF Manifold
- Garrett T3 AirResearch Turbo
- DSM Sidemount/ Mazda MX Front Mount
- DSM Bluetop injectors

Things I still Need

- 12:1 FMU
- Intercooler Piping
- Adapter Plate
- Exhaust

Questions

- Whats the difference beween the green tops and blue tops? Which are better for current set-up

- What is a good cheap exhaust to go through? Currently running car the way i bought it from this guy. No cats straight through to a aftermarket muffler... the tone is high pitched and tinny and cant bear it anymore. I dont have a lot of money though, so what do you guys suggest? Im new to hondas and dont know which mufflers sound good yet.

- Would you go through the DSM Sidemount or the Mazda Frontmount?

- How's the set-up looking so far... and what else am I missing that you guys can think of?

- Is 10psi safe on stock internals? Most likely prolly runnin 8-9psi.

Your guys's help/thoughts are highly appreciated. Oh yea does this group get together and meet up at all?

Thanks again,

Jon

Re: TURBO REX

I dont wanna go too cheap though to the point where im still where im at with a crappy sounding exhaust. My exhaust sounds crappy already i dont wanna put more money into crappiness. Is it really hard to make the four cylinder vehicles sound good, cuz i hear a lot of bad exhaust out there... Theres no way to get a nice smooth deep tone instead of a raspy tinny noise without spending over $200? And thanks again for the input guys. All responses are appreciated.

Hit the engine managment forum up and read read read ;) but you can prolly pick up a ecu with basemap for 165 or so and then have it tuned or go the diy route and do the tuning and chipping of it yourself.

Thanks again for your direction and quick responses tekno9998, the THe engine management FAQ page breaks things down into simpler form for me.

what is your set-up though, did you do the full cat back or order parts from them separate and piece together?

Thanks for the site, looks like some good quality stuff.

Re: TURBO REX

i just bought a universal muffler from a local shop and took it to a muffler place and had them put 2 1/4 piping on it. sounds really good, nice and deep. its all in the muffler and the size of the pipes. oh, and the header and high flow cat changed the sound quit a bit. its louder now, but still as deep.

Im thinkin one of the reasons why it sounds so crappy is probably cuz im running no cats at all. But is 2 1/4 big enough for forced induction?

Re: TURBO REX

I'd go 2.5" or 3"

Never too big for forced induction.

Well, i've come to the conclusion that FMU is not the way to go. And im thinking a 2.5 inch exhaust all the way through with a boost controlled cut out rite before the cat. THanks again to everyone participating on this set up.

Jon

The only problem with that cutout is that it doesn't help spool time at all since it only opens AFTER boost is already present. :l

I had one for my GTI, and theres a seperate wastegate actuator that you can throw a seperate boost contoller on. So you can set it to open up fully before full spool.

Re: TURBO REX

I bought their mild steel FULL exhaust kit and one 14" resonator. If you are even thinking about doing a cutout; keep the stock exhuast. Do a manual cutout or an e cutout but the boost dependant cutout is really not gonna helpmuch...also, NO LESS than 2.5" my dp is 2.5 and my exhaust is 3". I willupgrade toa 3"dp soon enough. I miss open dp...

Re: TURBO REX

yeah if your going to to a cut out, just make it a manual one and get a chambered quiet muffler to replace the rice boy one you have now. try one of the universalls off summit racing. youll save money since you wont be replaceing your whole exhaust, just the muffler. also a cat helps alot to eliminate the raspy sound. if you dont want to run a cat at least use a resonator to replace it.

It still doesn't open until AFTER spool so it doesn't help spool time much at all. :-\ I would just get a manual one.
