hey guys. .well i attempted to clock my turbo today, cause i'm going to be installing it in a couple of days. .well i cant get the damn exhaust housing off.. and i was stupid and i took the compressor housing off too. but then i put it back in. i put everything back correctly. but now the wheel spins smoothly but really tight. the turbo was sitting for a while, but it was spinning freely before i attempted to clock it. now it spins smoothly but tight. is this normal? is my turbo still useable? as of now, i plugged up the drain and put oil through the feed hole and filled it.. i'm letting it penetrate right now see if that does anything. anybody have any idea whats wrong? or if this is normal?

id just try to put oil in it and let it sit for a bit then try it if nothin happens take it apart and put it back together. good luck man

probably just got some coked up oil (crud) sticking up the wheel/shaft. No biggy. Spray it with some lube/oil and work the weels around. Should loosen up if its put together right.

update guys. well it let it sit with oil inside it over night and now it loosen up a bit. but not completely freely like before.. should i just slap the turbo on the car and run it?

maybe try to spray some PB blaster. it might break up anything that could be causing it to not spin freely. when i took off my compressor housing the wheel kinda got stuck too, but it wouldnt turn at all. so if yours turns its probably fine and just has to much gunk. but yea try some PB blaster.

Keep it oiled, when you go to first start up your car, have the oil drain unhooked and over a bucket, prime the oil system so if any crap is in there it'll go in the bucket/street/grass( :o) and not into your engine.

its probably u didnt tighten everything down evenly

well i took the compressor housing off again today and put it back together nicely, made sure it went on nice and straight and tightened everything evenly. still the same.. spins smoothly but not completely freely. i'll try that idea with putting it on with the drain open.

another thing. how would i go about clocking the damn thing. i hammer the crap out of it with as many bolts off that i can take off of the turbine housing. theres 2-3 of them thats get caught by the center section, but i loosen those and hammer the crap out of it. still wont budge.

I did that, hammered and beat the ---- out of it that is, and I had similar symptoms... Ended up having bent the shaft and when I installed the turbo, it was fucked... But might as well give it a try.

i am usually able to completely remove all bolts on T3's. I think I cut ones that are completely stuck, but often i use my angle grinder to grind away some of the center section so i can remove 2 or 3 of the bolts
