turbo project done...car won't start... what to do???

ok, I have 450 injectors, s-afc, t25 on a 93 civic d16Z6. I've checked for spark, my injectors are pulsating. I called an import dyno and they told me some settings so that I could start my car, but not drive it. Im going to traler it there, but the settings he gave me are
hi-throtl----0
lo-throtl-- +20 all the way across.
Th-point---lo 30% hi 80%
ne-point---1000rpm incraments
dec-air---nothing set
it sounds like it's gonna start, but never does. I was told to floor it when im cranking it over so I don't flood it, but and it almost started then, but not.....any suggestions??

Re:turbo project done...car won't start... what to do???

use these setting

follow the manual instructions exactly for the AFC and then make these changes to begin with.

also if you have DSM injectors, remember u need the resistor box. (if u have a 92+ civics like in your avatar)

hi-throtl-- -39 all the way across.
lo-throtl-- -39 all the way across.
Th-point-- lo 30% hi 80% or lo 98% hi 99%

i am using lo 20% hi 80%

O forgot to add, I do have a resistor box :)

Did you ask the guy if he knew how to tune "the hack"... It seems weird that he would give you zero or (+) positive settings when they're all supposed to be negative. :P

Re:turbo project done...car won't start... what to do???

I read something else somewhere else.....but they ran theres at 30 all the way accross. try it, yours wont work, try this.....

dont quote me on this, but I think I would give it a try.

Re:turbo project done...car won't start... what to do???

just do what i told you to, and it will start, i sounds like you are giving it WAY too much gas, tha +20 setting on the AFC, to a point where it will not run/start.

let me know what happen.

Re:turbo project done...car won't start... what to do???

ok, I set it at chingro4u's settings and it started after a few mins of trying. It's a little rough, idles about 1100-1200, then when I just bump that gas it's rough. oil press was good for a few mins, then dropped down to 50psi, so i'm gonna add 1/4 qt. in and see what happens. i'll report back later.

do u still plan on taking it to the dyno man for tuning?

How did you wire the resistor box?

Re:turbo project done...car won't start... what to do???

keep messing with the low TH settings until you get it to idle right. at first i set mine at -35 all the way across lo and hi, but it was idleing rough so i adjusted the lo 1000 to about -27 and it was idleing perfect. you just have to play with it.

Re:turbo project done...car won't start... what to do???

yes still taking it to the dyno, next wed. at 2pm ;) can't wait. i'm trailering it their...like 1 1/2 hrs away :'( Michigan sucks!

ok now that it starts, go to the LO throttle setting, and at the 1000 RPM mark, play with the setting and find where your engine idles ok. if you have a stock pump and fuel pressure regulator, your engine should have a good idle mark betwwen -27 and -42, somewhere around those marks....

happy boosting....

Re:turbo project done...car won't start... what to do???

ig your motor and turbo setup is good, and you are only worried about the tunning aspect of the car,

YOU DONT NEED TO TRAILER IT, U CAN DRIVE IT (dont rape it on the way, just drive it moderately)....

SAVE THE MONEY, when u find the idle, just set it accross the board on that setting, and drive it to the dyno.

(i recommend using hte money u saved and install a high volume fuel pump, so u can get some good numbers from the dyno)

Re:turbo project done...car won't start... what to do???

will a walbro 255 pump really help thatmuch?

pa2play 06-03-2004 03:54 PM

Re:turbo project done...car won't start... what to do???

ok, went out for my first drive, I set my settings at lo -37 and high -39, let me know if I should change anything. I have an ajustable wg and right now it was hitting about 10 psi, but the second it would get to that I would let off the gas.

it should be the other way around

-37 is richer (more gas) than -39.

lo should be -39 and hi be -37

the pump should be a MUST to keep the setup SAFE.
people have gotten away with a stock pump, but it is up to u to take the chance.

Re:turbo project done...car won't start... what to do???

man, I sick of spending $ on this car. I already have 1200 in the turbo set up :'( If I get it tuned, then get a fuel pump later, will I have to get it tuned again?

iNetForce 06-03-2004 10:00 PM

Re:turbo project done...car won't start... what to do???

hey man, u have spent 1200 on that car, if u spend 2000 ur still way lower than stupid people paying thousands of dollars to a shop to get a turbo installed, nobody cant buy ur knowledge. They more u pay and do, the more u know.

knowledge, priceless.

dont give up!

Re:turbo project done...car won't start... what to do???

ok, I have it set at lo -37 and hi-36, when i go into boost runs fine, but when I come out of it, it idles VERY low, why?

Re:turbo project done...car won't start... what to do???

sounds like timing is too retarded or too advanced for me, does it take a while for the rpms to go up and then to drop down?

this might seem like a complete headache, BUT u might not realize it but you are gaining knowlege many with they knew, most of the time it has to be through experiences like yours before.

about the idling, CHECK the BASE timing, and make sure it is OK.
u can retard it a bit if you would like to, just to be on the safe side.

or you can just simply turn the idle up.

Re:turbo project done...car won't start... what to do???

I went out for a drive this morning, and it runs fine now. It still has to crank over more than normal though to get started, not sure why.

Don't give up... I was ready to because I was spending so much money on parts that sat in my garage collecting dust. When you're done and tuned, it will be worth it. :)

Re:turbo project done...car won't start... what to do???

I think cause it's dumping more fuel then normal at idle.
But I heard that more people have that problem with the 450's and the hack

iNetForce 06-04-2004 10:56 AM

Re:turbo project done...car won't start... what to do???

did u use one step colder spark plugs? maybe thats why your car is taking a while to start up.

Dont give up man.

BigJ 06-04-2004 06:15 PM

Re:turbo project done...car won't start... what to do???

It's not the AFC hack its the 450's that make the car hard to start. If your car is hot and you start it it will crank over nicely. If that is really bothering you then get some RC injectors, but those are $$$$ compared to DSM's.

so is the car always going to take a fe more cranks to start? and no I don't have colder plugs

I dont think so man, ur just giving it too much fuel, ur flooding the engine.

pa2play 06-04-2004 08:58 PM

Re:turbo project done...car won't start... what to do???

I don't think I"m flooding.

quadnie 06-04-2004 09:06 PM

Re:turbo project done...car won't start... what to do???

I would have to point that problem to either a fuel cut off, or flow restrictions. My dad's stock '85 volvo wagon with 330k miles on it used to throw a few cranks before starting.. I installed a complete exhaust on it (including catless setup) and now it starts a hell of a lot smoother.

Just a suggestion.

keep playing with your idle setting. i had to set mine to -45 to get a smooth idle and its starts up just fine.
