Turbo in- Oil spewing from DP

2 Attachment(s)
**The valve is installed and it didnt help. Its either the seals or the 90 deg bend**

New Pics-

90 degree bend off turbo.

Attachment 38815

Well my turbo is all in and I just started it today. Alot of grey smoke came from the DP and after about 45 seconds of idling oil started coming from the DP. It doesnt drip, but is propelled out instead. Here are pics-

This is the oil that came out from about a minute and thirty seconds of idling.

Attachment 38816

And here are pics of the return line, I have been reading that can cause smoking.

Any idea what could be wrong?

sounds like bad turbo seals. might be time for a new one.

my oil return is a lot worse than that...i really need to cut it so it flows better.

yeah you need new seals bro

Re:Turbo in- Oil spewing from DP

Well, the turbo had zero shaft play in any direction, spun freely, and my charge pipes are squeaky clean.

Re:Turbo in- Oil spewing from DP

thats because its leaking out of the exhaust side not the compressor side

Re:Turbo in- Oil spewing from DP

----, I just cant imagine that its the seals. Dont shaft play and blown seals usually come hand in hand? Is there any other way to tell if it has blown seals? I paid a decent amount for the turbo. I bought it from a very reputable person on ebay who said it was in mint condition. Then a good friend of mine who is into DSMs said the turbo was the nicest he had ever seen. It just doesn't add up.

What is the oil pressure? If it's over about 60 or so, it's too much for good seals and will cause those kinds of issues. Check that and put in a restrictor/needle valve and see if it helps.

try what he said just dont starve the turbo of its precious oil ;D

Re:Turbo in- Oil spewing from DP

I dunno what the oil pressure is. Can I find an oil pressure gauge at Autozone or Discount? And where can I find one of those check valves if thats the case?

Re:Turbo in- Oil spewing from DP

Ohh, I also had to use a GSR oil cooler in order to get the feed fitting to work. I suppose that could have effected the oil pressure. Did I harm the turbo letting it idle with that high pressure? It probably idled for 4 mins.

One of these? Will it work with my StealthMode feed line?

Re:Turbo in- Oil spewing from DP

It looks to me like the oil isn't being allowed to drain back into the pan and is backing up into the turbo. Doesn't it look like that to anyone else? Gravity doesn't go sideways for oil returns. ;)

tegunderpressure 06-30-2004 05:26 PM

Re:Turbo in- Oil spewing from DP

But it does have a downward bend in the line.

that's what i saw
looks damn near horizontal

Re:Turbo in- Oil spewing from DP

The second pic was at an angle, I deleted it. The return drops a good inch and a half downards from the turbo to the pan.

What would I need to replace in order to run a -3an line?

I thought the stealthmode kits already used a -3 AN feed line?

Re:Turbo in- Oil spewing from DP

My Stealth kit came with a -4 line. All you need to run a -3 line is new an fittings. Off the block fitting you'll need a 1/8 npt to -3 and off the turbo whatever size it is to -3.

tegunderpressure 07-01-2004 01:39 PM

Re:Turbo in- Oil spewing from DP

Yeah, mine says it uses a -4an line. I thought you had to use bspt for honda blocks? Stealthmode says the 14b used a 7/16 for the inlet. So I would need a 7/16 npt to -3an and a 1/8 bspt to -3an right? Where can I find these online?

Bump- see first post.

Re:Turbo in- Oil spewing from DP

if it's happening at idle then you can probably rule out insufficient crankcase ventilation. sounds like the oil is getting backed up. are you sure the return has no kinks in it?

Re:Turbo in- Oil spewing from DP

do you have a pic of the engine bay?
I curious about what the manifold looks like and how low the turbo is actually sitting?

tegunderpressure 07-20-2004 01:02 PM

Re:Turbo in- Oil spewing from DP

Ill go take more pics of the engine bay.

As for kinks, no, but there is that 90 degree bend off the turbo...

I cant install that ball valve that I bought, it doesnt have enough room to screw on either way, so I was wondering if I even need the oil pressure sensor? Could I take it off and screw the ball valve directly to the block?

New pics on first post.

Re:Turbo in- Oil spewing from DP

Where is your oil feed line???
from that pic it looks like it's going into the top off
the manifold, but that's not it right?

*edit* i see it in the other pic

try taking it off and inspecting it.
that's all i can think of to do
and just in case check out ebay and pic you up a nother one for 100 bucks or so fro a back up plan. That's what i plan to do incase anything happens.

Oil Valve is installed, I will start it tommorrow and let you all know what happened.

tegunderpressure 07-23-2004 11:53 AM

Re:Turbo in- Oil spewing from DP

Ok, the valve didnt help, so its either the seals or the 90 deg bend.
