turbo oil questions

YES I KNOW THIS HAS BEEN COVERED

BUT.....

I'm running a y8 with a .48/.60 60 trim. Been running strong for a coule months. I have an good drain line, and i'm running about 35 psi of oil to it using a stealthmode restrictor and an autometer gauge to monitor. However i've started to notice that i can see a little oil smoke comming from the turbo after i shut it down. Also a little section of the turbine section is blue. Now normally i woudln't be concerend but the turbo is watercooled.

I thought anymore than 35psi of oil can smoked the seals in the turbo. But i also don't want to have a paperweight either. Should i turn the oil pressure up to 50? WTF is going on here.

yeah but that's the thing, i'm not concerend about oil leakage now. It's not soking out the exhaust, but i also don't want to cook the turbo...

At first read, you're looking too far into this. ;)

Re: turbo oil questions

oil pressure to the turbo should certainly not be raised. 50 psi is too much. Turbo is happy with 20-30psi. any more than that, you risk flooding it and once the oil level within the turbo raises to te shaft level, it starts leaking. stick with a 1/16 restrictor.

if the turbine is blueish, maybe your pushing too much HP on that 0.48 stage 1 turbine??? Hey this one is maxed out and heats up like crazy starting at only 250 HP.....

You know such high heat contributes to the carbon buildups behind the wheel shroud and once the turbine piston ring gets clogged with carbon, yes it will start leaking then fail.

If that's your problem, you should have the turbo upgraded with a 0.63 a/r turbine and maybe rebuild at the same time.
