Default Turbo oil leak driving me nuts.

Well guys been some time.
Ive been working on my little turbo project slowlly but surelly.
Missed you guys so Im back to pester ya with some dumb *** questions.

Replaced my 5" Rims with 6.5" rims. Replaced the 150s with some nice wide 210s.
No more scarry wheel spinds in 2nd.

Got a nice stero in. Clearing up the dash for a nice big custom LCD. For Engine management.

Anyway youve heard this story a 100 times. Ive read all the posts yet aint making any progress on sorting it out.

Exhaust smokes like ----. And is filled with oil.
We suspected a problem with the exhaust side Oil retension ring. So opened it up to chk. Snaped the ring. So made up a new ring Pluged it in and no issues.

THen placed an order for a rebuild kit with new rings, bsuhes etc.
Striped the trubo for the second time put in the new bushes etc. Oil leaks real bad.

Dont know what to do other than starting with a new turbo.

Another option Im thinking off is to machine off the bush that the ring sits on and make up a new one slightlly larger. Or maybe weld up the grove the ring sits in any ideas. ?
And no dont ask me to go get a new turbo. Thats like me asking you to go get an elephant ride.

Just test the piston ring in the center section without the shaft. You will be able to see how the ring sits and most of all the width of the gap. Ideally, there should be none.

When you re install everything, the turbine-end snap ring should have the opening UP.

Also, the snap ring holding the turbine side journal bearing should have the opening DOWN.

IF it still leaks: oil plumbing problem, make sure you have 1/2" oil return and a 1/16" restrictor somewhere in the oil feed line.

good luck

Also worst case I have to source a new turbo. All I have to go on is the info in this picture. Can you help me identify what car this is off and what modell it is.

Ive got some replcement shafts but they didnt match this setup.

The piston ring opening needs to be aligned with the oil feed (TOP). The opening, in cases where it's not 100% close, is where the oil will escape through. installing the ring with this gap at the top of the turbo will prevent as much as possible the oil leakage if the oil level raises into the turbo.

That turbo is an IHI RHB something an overall picture of it will be handy.

Thanks again sir.
Finally got it
So by opening your refering to the gap between the piston rings.
We call it ring end gap.
I will strip the turbo and check.
But my understanding was that we have to have some gap just like regular piston rings cause the rings expand.

I dont see why pointing the gap up helps. After all dosent the piston ring rotate.
Its not like there is a pin holding it in place like they have on the two strokes.

Im open to buying new parts to get it runing. But this Hybrid setup is so kick **** Im scared I wont get the same setup runing so well again.

Last option Im thinking off is welding up the lip the ring sits in. What should I use to weld cast Iron.
