Turbo not spooling, but still running 6psi?wtf*UPDATE*

Hrmm, so ive been runnin 6 psi on my d16z6 del sol(greddy 15g turbo), and all of a sudden, the blow of valve sounds weak, and when im under boost i dont even hear the turbo spool? Im still reading 6psi, but all of a sudden you can't hear the turbo spool. (ive been hearing it spool/hiss for the last two years)It doesn't seem to be pulling as hard iether.

I first checked my charge pipes, BOV, and vacuum lines. Only thing i can think of is one vac line that goes to the turbo, it is blocked off . I can only get to it from underneath the car, so tomorrow morning i will check it out.

Anyone have any ideas? It really is kinda wierd... ???

Ok, so i just checked everything out, all vac lines/charge pipes, BOV are good. Then i noticed that im missing my idle screw. Hrmm, when did that fall out??? Could that be my problem maybe? Anyway, so does anyone know the size of screw, so i could maybe pic it up from ace hardware or something, or is this something i have to get from a honda dealer?

Well, ive been noticing a very very small amount of oil on my chargepipes, and i have plans of rebuilding it in the next couple months, but i don't think thats it. What would make it so I can't hear it spool(hiss) but still be boosting 6psi?

So does anyone know the size of that idle screw? or do i have to go to honda for it?

i wish i knew what thread pitch and size screw that is... i don't know if it is why you are having the problem, but something goofy like that always plagues me

if its leaking oil in the pipes in probably needs a rebuild, sounds like the seals are going out...

Re:Turbo not spooling, but still running 6psi?wtf*UPDATE*

Seals are going, but its not bad enough yet.. should still have a lot of life left. I just got a idle screw from a friends car, and that wasn't the problem. I have checked every damn vacum connection. The charge pipe from the intercooler to the TB is getting way hotter than it normally would, im wondering if a coupling came off the intercooler, or a chargepip barely came out, could this cause me to be running like 5psi, but not hear the turbo spool? Thats just one other thing i don't understand, i read atleast 5psi, but it doesnt pull like it use too, and i can't even hear the turbo spool?

Anyone else have any ideas? Im pretty sure its not the turbo.

maybe your used to 5 psi now? just a thought

No, thanks for trying but thats not what it is. I don't understand why i would be reading 5psi if im obviously not getting it? I have no vac leaks, and the BOV is not leaking. Why would i boost 5psi but the turbo doesn't even spool?

just a quick ? where do you have your boost gauge hooked up? IE if its right after the turbo it could be leaking somewhere else, try if you dont already tapping a line from your intake manifold so if theres a boost leak somewhere on your IC or pipes you wouldnt wouldnt get the power at the gauge. keep in mind that a TB gasket or intake manifold gasket and even injector o-rings are cause boost leaks
eh hope that makes sense because its 4:23 in the morning
either way goodluck man

Re:Turbo not spooling, but still running 6psi?wtf*UPDATE*

It sounds to me as if you have an obstruction in your charge pipe that is restricting the flow. With a partially blocked pipe you would still get boost, but not flow, and the turbo would not need to spin as fast to develop 6-psi boost (hence less turbo spooling noise). This of course assumes your boost gauge is plumbed in between the turbo and the obstruction.

What are you using for the flexible joints in you charge pipes? I once tried fiberglass cloth hose with a spiral reinforcing wire (the wire was between two layers of fabric). After a while the inner layer delaminated away from the outer layer and blocked the charge pipe.

In your case (if this is fact is your problem) the obstruction must be minor, otherwise the overly reduced air flow to the engine would not create enough exhaust energy to power the turbo -- to build boost.

Ok, figured it out! My lazy ass finally jacked up the car, and i pull the charge pipe off the outlet of the turbo, and the god damn Coupling is completely torn in like 5 diferent places. I put a new coupling on , and god damn, fixed the problem. Im now back to running 7psi, and its pulling harder than ever! Now i think my clutch is slipping :-\ Oh well!. Thanks for you guys help.! :)
