Default turbo mounting direction? wierd question!!

Ok this is a bit of a wierd question to ask.. I just finished a turbo set-up.. Nothing crazy but i'm happy with it.. My concern is weather it matters which way the turbo is mounted to the manifold.. IE, Can the compressor side of the turbo be on either the drivers or passengers side of the car? Will it affect anything with the oil or coolant passages in the turbo? The turbo i used was a TE04H mitsu off a chrysler.. It's a brand new re-build but oil is getting into the exhaust through the turbo.. Before i go back to the guy that rebuilt it i want to make sure it's not my mistake causing the problem..

Thanks in advance!

If you are still having oil issues you might be feeding it too much oil, not letting it return enough, or the seals are going.
what jago said. it doesn't matter which way you have it.

But what would make a (brand new-ish) turbo leak oil?

Orientation wouldn't, but...

Ya the turbo is off a chrylser.. but it was re-built.. By what is supposed to be a good turbo shop in toronto.. The oil return line may not be pointing straight down.. I could flip the lines and see what happens.. Thanks for the info..

Either the seals are no good which is possible.. Or like said in the above posts maybe since my oil return isn't staight down it is getting pressure but doesn't have an easy return..

Thanks again.. K-man

What do you mean "flip the lines"?

Most oil line kits have a thin braided oil feed line that screws into the top of your turbo from the back of your block. With the help of gravity, the oil goes through your turbo and drains out the bottom into a larger(usually rubber w/a braided sleeve) return line that dumps back into your oil pan.

The general idea is that if the return line is too small, oil goes out the seals...

By the way, a turbo can be mounted just about any way you can think of... As long as the oil inlet is on top and the drain is on the bottom...

The oil inlet of the turbo housing is usually a screw in type while the outlet has sort of a square opening. If it's not like this, you need to rotate the center housing.
