turbo installed now code4 and won't start???

well like it says... i have a 90 hatch w/d16a6, it ran fine when i put it in the garage to start the turbo install, but now i am all finished minus the downpipe and I get a code 4 and the car won't start.... I am using a pm6 ecu chipped with turboedit and i guy i knows semi-tuned map for a similar setup... I thought the distributor might have taken a ---- so i tried my friends and it did not work either.... I checked the resistance between the leads on the big plug of the distributor and they are all around 350 ohms which should be good i think?? Anyways i am baffled, could a wire be loose somewhere? Or might i have pulled one out of the ecu plug when i was taking it outa the car, i have no idea.... Any help appreciated, thanks guys

As you pretty much know a Code 4 is a crank position sensor, and that sensor is located inside the distributor. Since you already tried another distributor and it still wont work, I'm sure your old distributor is fine too and its a wiring problem. Be sure to check the wiring around the distributor connectors, make sure the pins are ok, not bent. Just look all over your wiring see if anything is chaffed or routed funny. If your sure its not wiring just get another ecu (pm6/pr4) something obd0, (ya it wont be recurved for 450's) but something stock you can throw in there and just crank over the engine with, it should still kinda start with the 450's and a stock ecu. This will rule out ecu. I'd try that

alrighty.... i will try a diff ecu as soon as i can get ahold of one, could it be a loose wire on one of the ecu plugs though???? This is my brothers car and the guy he bought it from kind of hacked up the wiring harness a bit when he went from dpfi to mpfi and auto to manual.. But as i said it worked fine when we put it in the garage a few weeks ago??? I dunno, will try a diff ecu for the time being

ahhhh.. its had a dpfi-mpfi swap eh? I'd definatly double check all the connections then.

so who has the best write up for me to cross reference the wiring, and ecu pin location??? blah i suppose i should search.

Looks like a pretty easy one here..

could this possibly be a ground somewhere??? does the distributor need to be grounded or something?? Might be a dumb question, i don't know. Someone told me it might be a ground but did not elaborate...

Re:turbo installed now code4 and won't start???

The distributor does need a ground, but usually it just grounds through the head, thus the reason for the ground strap from the battery-tranny, battery-frame, and head-frame. If any of these are missing, add them.

Re:turbo installed now code4 and won't start???

thats the crank angle sensor, check the two wires that run straight from the distirbutor to the ecu, one of them is disconnected, or maybe the one that u added on the ecu harness is loose, sometimes this happens because normaly on dpfi cars there is an empty space where u have to install a pin with the wire that runs to the distributor, sometimes u dont push it all the way in or maybe u mess with the ecu and its loose now.

Re:turbo installed now code4 and won't start???

well i checked the ecu wiring harness and sure enough the wire was completly out of b10, so i plugged it back in and tried to start it up..... It cranked a few times but then vroom!! Started right up and idled perfect on my supplied TE BIN. So i let it run for about 5 mins checking for leaks and such, everything looked good so we decided to take it for a spin..... I reached over to the passenger seat to tuck the ecu back into its home under the pass carpet and as soon as i got it in the bolt holes the car just died suddenly !@#$^&* I was like ----!! what could be loose now??? But i checked all the wires again and they all seem to be attached this time, so the car will not start now, it just cranks and cranks and the check engine light is on but the ecu is flashing no code???? Could i have fried the ecu? I checked all the fuses (i think) and they all seem to be in order... So here we go again, another gay problem related to someone elses wiring mess... Any ideas on what this might be guys???
