Turbo install question
 

I only have one weekend of garage time to install my turbo when I get all the parts a couple of months down the road. So i'd like to get as much done as possible before I get the garage. My question is can I do these things(or other things) and drive my car around for a while without having a turbo on my car.

-get bov welded on cold air intake and hook it up
-wire in s-afc, and set everything at zero
-wire up air/fuel and boost gauge

Can I do these and drive around my car? Is there other things I can do to save some garage time?

you shouldn't put the bov on the cold air intake.. you can however, make a pipe for the intake from the turbo (or intercooler) and get a bov welded on. as for the boost gauge, you can install it, but not hook up all the wires. the safc you can put in, lots of people just run those w/o a turbo.
if you are making your own turbo with a hf manifold (or something) you can get the turbo, the manifold, an adapter plate, and hook them together. aside from getting all the parts i cant think of anything else.. and, if everything goes right, it should go in within a weekend.... good luck

you can have a boost guage installed and running on an N/A motor. actually i'd suggest it when it comes to getting things done in a timely fashion. it'll just show vacuum for a while. all a boost guage is is a vacuum guage that goes past zero.

install the AFC without the injectors.
mount your intercooler if you want just put tape over the inlet/outlet

no reason not to put the bov and a cold air/ ic piping as long as you don't run the vacuum line to the BOV.

do as much as you can before you hit the garage. all you want to do there is run oil/coolant lines, acutally install the turbo itself, run piping/dp, and do the injector resistors (and clips if need be).

Yea everything he said... mounting the IC is timing consuming and everything else can be done to the car with no ill side effects...

you can actually install 450cc AND the afc at the same time. just set the afc to -46 or -47 accross the entire board.

Why wouldn't I be able to use my cold air intake as the charge pipe between the intercooler and the throttle body?? That would make the install alot easier...all i'd have to do is put a u-bend on the end of the cold air intake in order for it to connect to the intercooler.

In another words it's a cold air intake right now, but it would be a charge pipe when I put on the turbo.

you can use your cold air intake for the turbo also, like you said you will just have to extend the pipe. as for the intercooler, if you get a fmic you should be able to make brackets rather quickly. mine took only about 40 mins. if you use a larger fuel pump you could probably install that as wel before you have the turbo.

You can do that!!! I just did! i have my bov welded to a cold air intake i had from before and just extended it. it actually was the best part about the piping because its already bent to my car, just extend to i.c. I also painted mine high heat black so it really makes it look alot better! just like aftermarket mendral bend ;)
