Default Turbo/IC piping?

Hey guys, for all you HMT'ers that fab up your own pipes.. Im trying to peice together a kit for my LD9 for as cheap as possible. Obviously im not gonna skimp on the turbo or intercooler, but the pipes i can save a lot on.

My question is, how do you go about the actual mockup of the piping. You know, actually figuring out what bends, what size etc... and what goes where. Do you bolt the turbo and IC on and then use some kind of bendable tubing? Then make it out of mandrel bends? What do you think is the best and cheapest way to do this?

Thanks!

ya pretty much have to piece it along as you go. Get some mandrel bends, some straight pipes and get to work.

I've heard of people using duct tape to fasten the pipes together, but yes you will have to cut some of those mandrel bends to make the mockups work.

I've heard of someone using pvc pipe then taking it to a muffler shop to have them do the mockup.

Yep, it's a create as you go type deal. I pretty much went to the local muffler shop and asked them to bend a few U bends etc. and if they had any bend mistakes. I took home what they gave me and chopped them down to whatever I needed.

www.jcwhitney.com has great prices on pipes and they ship really really fast. You can even get like 2 foot u-bends so you dont have to piece in pieces of pipe.

so far I've heard good things about the local mandrel ebay -----.. ubendman or some ----.

You might consider him for some cheap *** bends. If anyone cares to start a thread on their mandrel bend experiences it would be nice to have.

It would also be nice to have a fabrication forum on this website for me to moderate

I've heard of people using large hose clamps to hold the pipes together while fabricating charge pipes aswell. Sounded like a decent idea to me.

It usually takes about 4 u bends and a little bit of straight section to complete a HMT setup on a civic/integra.

Also check out

www.speedpartsrus.com (custom-coachs website) He has mandrel aluminum and stainless steel at very good prices.

I went through ubendman. His stuff seemed good and cheap. I got 5 bends and 4 ft of streight for 100 shipped.

PVC piping all the way. It won't melt and it is lighter than metal. Withstands 300psi and won't melt. Great for intercooler piping. I've been using it for a year now and no problems. (knock on wood)
