turbo header problems.

hello,

first, ive been reading on this site for a few months gathering info for my turbo project, which is now officially starting. this is my truck i am starting with.....its a 4.0 v6 6 speed. i have got the turbo picked out, and learned that at my boost level (8psi goal) there is no need for a 500$ + intercooler. now, i need help with the headers. there are no kits, so i will be making it myself. i have not found any difinitive asnwers, even at the library on the size of the primaries. i picked up an oem exhaust gasket, and the holes are 2.00 on it. should i just make the tubes that size? i do not want to make them too big and loose my exhaust velocity. also, what size should i run after the collector, 2" on each side to the turbo? thanks for the help, i did search but was unable to find the data i was looking for.

You don't need to spend $500+ on an intercooler, spend $200 and you can get a decent one.

im thinking it will be fast enough. my girl friend has a 01 mustang gt with I/E and it cannot pull away from a dig or roll until 100+. its a high 14 sec truck, low low 15 when "i" drive it at the track with nothing but spinning in first.....i think i can knock 1-2 sec off the 1/4 mile with mild boost. (i would think i would have an easier job than those honda people turning 17 sec cars into something fast...but what do i know?) bye bye warranty? nah, i know a few people at the dealership, which helps, and, nothing will be cut. when i blow it up, which i wont, i can revert back to stock and drive it back to them.

Nice project. That will be fast with some boost providing you can get some traction.I would go with the same size as the stock for the tubes.Investing in a intercooler would be a good idea. What are you oging to use for engine management?Keep the updates coming as that looks like a awesome project :y

Fabricating your own Turbo Header

Use schedule 10 SS in lieu of the Schedule 40 steel.

Re: turbo header problems.

that is a good write up, but, doesnt mention header size, just the process. im just going to take off my header, match the size to the ports, and order a box of random bends in that size and play jig saw puzzle. anyone know the min length i should keep the primaries? some say 14 inches.........

Re: turbo header problems.

Toyota v6's are historically very beefy under boost.
Most of them in good shape will run >400bhp without any work.
