hey hmt, im gonna be boostin my gsr in my hatch soon and im wondering how many lbs of boost and other misc. stuff i need to make 300whp.. i have a ebay t3t4 50 trim turbo and im pretty much peicing a kit together.. CAn i make my goal with a hidden side mount turbo and how many lbs of boost do you guys think it will take? Take note this is on stock internals.. thanks and please positive feedback only

id say that with supporting mods such as fuel pump and injectors 9 would be pushing it and 10 would be dangerous. just run 8lbs that should be enough for a b18c1 and put you close to 300whp.

^ agreed...dont bother pushing over 8psi unless you plan to do a rebuild...you see close to 230-240 with that 50trim...my old setup with a dsm 16g on 6psi only made 197hp with a stock pump and dsm 450cc injectors...

8psi is conservative w/ a 50trim. Not sure about a GSR but my B16 was pushing 10psi on a T3/T4OE 57trim w/ .63A/R and did just fine as a DD. TUNE TUNE TUNE!!! Your tune is THE most important thing you can "buy" for your set-up.

did you run that 16g on a gsr? if so how did it do past 7k? i have been looking for a turbo thats not a t3/t4

da9turbs 01-11-2011 03:36 AM

i ran 18psi on a stock b18a ls block not built with 250,000kms on it ran well for a year until the head gasket went, im running a gt2871r turbo with a small exhaust housing and a ebay cast manifold.

m0uaman 01-11-2011 10:35 AM

yes the 16g was on a completely stock gsr motor

the peak horsepower was 197@7000rpm after 7k it drops off...torque was 163lbs @ 5.5k

lostmind10 01-12-2011 09:13 PM

when did the 16g start building boost? im building a kit right now. i bought a big16g from ebay and ported the wastegate flapper opening to eliminate boost creep well see how long it last on 8-9psi :)

m0uaman 01-13-2011 10:16 AM

at the time i had a cast iron manifold so it did take a little longer to hit full boost...i remember it being around 3500-3750 for full boost

lostmind10 01-13-2011 07:42 PM

was it a actual 16g or an ebay brand?

m0uaman 01-14-2011 12:09 PM

ebay

lostmind10 01-14-2011 06:19 PM

do you ahve any pictures of the set up? im curious on how to run the intercooler pipes and the downpipe, how did you do yours?

m0uaman 01-17-2011 10:03 AM

i dont have any pictures...you have to buy a j-pipe for dsm...i had the turbo facing towards the tranny cuz i wanted to keep ac...the downpipe i bought a flange and fabricated it myself...

A T3 50 trim will not support that kind of flow. A T3 60 trim would be ideal.

It would require about 16psi boost (give or take) to make 300hp with that engine. It can be done on stock internals, provided your engine is in good condition (do leak-down test). However, it would be pushng the limits and I question how long it would last. Heat management would be the difficult part. The longer you're on the throttle making this kind of power, the more heat is produced and the more likely you'll melt a stock piston, regardless of how well it's tuned.

Good luck.

.
Good luck.

he has a t3/t4 50 trim off ebay not a t3 50trim
if its an ebay brand t3/t4 its actually a 48 trim and will support about 400-415 hp at the crank]

if it is an ebay turbo id suggest swaping out the turbine housing for a .48 instead of a .63 or it will be pretty laggy down low

any garret stage 3 housing should fit it
