Can't decide which turbocharger to choose.. I'm turboing d16z6.. my friend recommended me 14b.. What you guys think? I'm turboing compleately stock engine... BTW, I'll appreciate if someone tells me what's the difference beetween 14b, t25, t3/t4? Thanks.. |
Re: Which turbo to go with? D-series..
t3t4 is to big, t25 is to small, i ran a t3 48 60 on my z6 and it spooled up super fast, and went all the way to redline, is was a nice turbo, garret turbo

Re: Which turbo to go with? D-series..
The 14b is good for stock z6 too.

Re: Which turbo to go with? D-series..
i love my t3/to4e on my z6
Then again, i'm running 18psi ;D |

Re: Which turbo to go with? D-series..
RBH5 works great. Fun to drive on the street.

Re: Which turbo to go with? D-series..
I'm thinking of using an H1C, but I'm not really sure.
.48/.60 would be awesome, but you can't beat the .63/.60 |
Re: Which turbo to go with? D-series..
Bumping this topic again because I'm in process of buying turbine.. I just want to know what you mean by .48/.60?
Do you mean .60 compressor a/r and .48 turbine a/r? I need to know what compressor trim I need... 50, 57, 60 Help :) |

Re: Which turbo to go with? D-series..
Since I like dirt cheap performance invest in oxy/acetylne tanks and a torch...or plasma whatever...
1.) Find a Junkyard that has half-off day. (but go on the day when they let in the new cars.) 2.) Map out which cars you want to hit up IE: probes, SVO mustangs, $$$Turbocoupes preferebly auto TB's because they have .60comp/.48 turbine whereas the manual ones get the bigger .63 turbine. both are capable of the same power because of the same compressor blade size but the .48 turbine will spool a lot quicker in your honduh$$$ DSM's..saabs volvos mercedes blah blah blah. -You can cut out about 10 turbos in one hour at the jy with a torch whereas it might take you three hours of bleeding knuckles, running out of PB blaster and stripping out bolts/sockets. Boom! use the best compressor side you can find out of ten and the best exhaust side you can find and you'll have a nice turbo. If it's not half off day go and be a pirate and throw your turbos in a trunk of a car where you can easily rip the backseats out with a butterfly knife. 3.)Come back on half off day 1 turbo = $50 at my jy....BUY ALL 10! Think about it, P.O.S. turbos sell on ebizzle for $100 if they are doctored properly with a wire brush...the kids with JDMZZZ!lolzerz!typeRGSR tattooed on their dickwill scream for them. -So initial investment = $200 oxy/aectylene tanks w/ torch + 10 turbos ($500) =$700. While retaining one turbo and selling 9 for ~$100 a piece (maybe a little higher or lower...whatever) equals out to $900 4.) So In conclusion (yes i'm in fifth grade,) you get a nice welder, a good turbo and $200 for more funds to your car...and you can probably do this twice a month before you tap out that junkyard...so the incestment doesn't stop there. Ortherwise what I like to call "Gangin' Change." |
Re: Which turbo to go with? D-series..
saab t3 42/48 all the way
|
Re: Which turbo to go with? D-series..
Most T3's will work, 14b's are nice too, just about any turbo will work if its the proper size, i have seen the 14b work really nice on a stock z6.

Which one and no

Re: Which turbo to go with? D-series..
.60 compressor .48 turbine ---> 48/60
.60 compressor .63 turbine ---> 63/60 .42 compressor .48 turbine ---> 42/48 Why is the 42/48 have the compessor listed first? I don't know. This is how I've always heard/read them and so has everyone I know on here or I deal with. Compressor = Cold Side Turbine = Hot Side JP |
Re: Which turbo to go with? D-series..
what are the pro and cons on the .48/.60 vs the .63/.60

.63/.60 is going to be a couple hundred RPM later to spool and hit full boost. It has more "potential" for power with the bigger exhaust side. More for a built motor or those not concerned with lag and want a all at once hit of power. However, many built Ds sport the .48/.60 and do well, but will any kind of high end power I'd reccomend the .63/.60. I have a hybrid Volvo/Chryslar (NOT t3/t4 I have different wheel) .63/.60 and I get 10.5psi at 4200rpm. It's fine for me, and I like it. JP |

T25 is too small. 14b is borderline too small. Most any T3 will do you fine, and is bang for the buck on stock block D16. You won't notice any significant difference in spool between .48 and .63 turbine housings; it's dropped across the tiny-ass OEM turbine wheel. |
Re: Which turbo to go with? D-series..
the .63/.60 sounds right up my alley for my 300whp goal, but i'll try this .48/.60 first and see how i like it.

Re: Which turbo to go with? D-series..
to the guy who posted to use a torch, you can't. I already asked and they are worried about blowing the place up. plasma might work but u need a power source where the junk yards don't offer one.
Looks like its busted up knuckles for us! |

Re: Which turbo to go with? D-series..
my 14b seems like a nice match to my y8 for now, are 14b smaller or larger or same compared to a RHB5?
|
Re: Which turbo to go with? D-series..
Nothing is smaller than RHB5, except maybe T2 or RHB3. Schwitzer S1. GT15. Etc.

So, I would say go with a 48/60 as I loved my old one. the spool time was supurb and perfect for power but I am aiming for a bigger number. 300whp just aint gonna cut it in my town. Thats why I went a little bigger. Besides, lag is like traction control :) |
Re: Which turbo to go with? D-series..
the rhb5 works well for my D. mid 13's on slicks.
|
Re: Which turbo to go with? D-series..
Lag is a joke. You guys need to learn to brake boost.

Re: Which turbo to go with? D-series..
this thread is a joke. you guys need to read the stickys.
