turbof22a 10-14-2009 09:21 PM

yeah dont use the evo turbo. its way to small. do you kn ow anything about turbos or researched the subject or did you just come across a turbo and think that you can do it?

hamorhead 10-14-2009 09:44 PM

lol ford explorer
youll probably see 1psi of boost and then itll break cuz its a pos ford

TurboExplorer2002 10-15-2009 09:29 AM

Well I'm not the biggest gear head in the world but I know a bit... What kind of turbo would you suggest I run

TurboExplorer2002 10-15-2009 09:32 AM

Look I'm not here for critics like you to run your mouth I'm here for help and suggestions my boy has v6 silverado and it runs like no other on 12 pounds

5G_4G15 10-24-2009 11:23 PM

get t3 or a holset . if its a 4.0 the evo turbo is too small. that would be a total sleeper lol boost that ----!

turbof22a 10-25-2009 03:16 AM

how are you going to controll the fuel and timing on that explorer hondata maybe?

Run two evo turbos. Find another one and then you will have enough compressor area and turbine area for your explorer.

Can we see pics of the Silverado setup? Not being a jag off, just asking because I like outside the box installs on GM stuff. Thanks.

TurboExplorer2002 10-26-2009 03:52 PM

So run a t3 turbo? What if I found another turbo from an Evo and put twins?

TurboExplorer2002 10-26-2009 03:59 PM

Yes I plan on seeing if I can get hondata to rig up to it

I believe a twin setup with Evo 8 16G's would be fantastic actually, however I doubt it will get done in this particular thread. The Evo 8's use a twin scroll turbine housing, that when piped correctly can greatly help low end spool which leads to better torque/power lower in the RPM scale. The turbo uses an inconel turbine wheel (lighter than most standard off the shelf turbine wheel materials) which helps with rotational energy.

Back in the day I helped a good friend put two Evo 3 16G's on a 5.0L SBF which had a good cam, aluminum heads, big intake manifold, 9:1 compression ratio and the car really hustled even on the older technology Evo 3 16G turbos. The car would go high 10's on any given night. I know this is apples and oranges comparing what ever motor is in this explorer (hell I don't even know to be honest) vs. a half way built 5.0, but it worked pretty well.

You could very well be correct that it might be a little laggy, but this is an automatic so the turbo won't loose as many RPM's between shifts as a manual transmission. Screw it all, put two Evo 8 16G's on it and tweak it up on Mega-Squirt! WOOOOOO!

turbof22a 10-27-2009 08:33 PM

yeah i too doubt it will ever get done in this thread i think we all are just blowing smoke talking about it

useless....what a waste...

david_mutchler 10-28-2009 11:48 PM

how is that a waste? nothing wrong with being unique

DannyAE 10-29-2009 02:13 PM

i think anyone who says its a waste is a moron, SUVs were geared to be VERY fast 0-60 vehicles, they have quick ass get up and go power, the fact that its an SUV really only concerns me with the "street racing" thing... because.. WHO TRIES RACING AN SUV?!?!? lol

anyways. i think a turbo compliments the engine in more then 1 way.

however when we get into "legal" discussion, i wouldnt want to see that thing on the track, i bet it would handle like CRAP, unless its fully gutted with a ridiculously expensive/custom suspension setup

Either way i bet that thing MOVES on the 4th mile.

d-clem 10-29-2009 03:04 PM

to each his own. personally that one you posted a link to was a pos. the wiring looked like ---- the truck looked like ---- his gauge mounting looked like ---- as well as his custom turbo setup. i mean it gets the job done, but if you are going to do it please atleast have a little pride in your work and clean it up more than that guy did

d-clem 10-30-2009 09:34 AM

i dont know if i can agree with you hating or anything but...
like i always tell them riceboi's with the b/h/f series swaps... PLEASE for the love of god...
TUCK YOUR WIRES... your spending how many thousands on a swap and you cant take an extra 10 minutes to tuck your wires?? laziness kills... or the honduh guys that ground EVERYTHING to that front chassis mount next to the radiator. so you go from having 1 ground wire, to 17 and it looks like a black woman with dreadlocks ...

either way that SUV is teh-pawn... i would of liked to see a turbo tacoma or something instead but hey... this is just inspiring

WOW A ---- TALKER...

Hmm lets see i have a whopping 500 dollars in the whole truck including the turbo kit wheels yada yada yada. last time i took it to the track it ran a 12.8 @113. STOCK 4.0 with only 10 lbs of boost.

Honestly what the hell is the difference if it looks nice or it looks like ----? Close the hood and it all looks the same... The truck was a budget build that was completed in 2 days in a garage with a damn stick welder and some old exhaust pipe i had laying around. Each to his own on the exterior mods.

Wow you come to a site called homemadeturbo.com and then bitch and moan about peoples turbo setups.

Hey turboExplorer, I am after the same goal. I want to twin turbocharged my truck, not to be cool or different, But because I would like A little more torque went pulling a trailer or taking the Family across the Mountains.I think turbocharging this engine is almost the way it should have be from the factory. My target is 310-350 Bhp that should be possible with less that 10 psi, with exellent throttle response.

Have you done any preliminary work, like set your power goals, tunning, target PSI?..... Evo turbos are good but I think they would be laggy.

Regards,
AL
