Turbo Exhaust for a CRX

Well i need an exhaust BAD!!!!!!!!! I need to know what brand that makes an exhaust at least 2.5. This will be good enough for a turbo motor boosting 8 lbs?? or will 2 1/4 be fine enough????

I dont want to get one made, because the pipe isnt a solid size its like big then gets smaller on a bend. thats just what the local exhaust shop is like.

Re:Turbo Exhaust for a CRX

I picked up an OBX midpipe off ebay for $90 shipped. 2.5" mandrel bent, 304 stainless steel with resonator. I'm happy with it so far for the price. Just get a 2.5" high flow cat and run a straight pipe back with no muffler. Throw a tip on if you care about looks. It's cheap, effective and bolts up to stock hangers.

Here's one on ebay now.. it's a little more than I paid, if you hold out, you can find it cheaper.

you could order your binds off ebay then take it to a shop and have them weld them for you!
I have 3" mandrel bent from turbo to the tip under my crx al for about 275.00

Re:Turbo Exhaust for a CRX

I was thinking about getting a flowmaster muffler rear axle back, and then getting some kind of mid pipe and a test pipe for the cat. Would this be sufficient for the setup im creating??

Re:Turbo Exhaust for a CRX

You don't want a chambered muffler, which is what all Flowmasters are. I have one on now, but plan on ditching it when I put the turbo on. I'd look towards the dynomax super turbo / Ultraflow or Magnaflow for a decent straight through turbo muffler. Or, just ditch the muffler altogether. The turbo makes the exhaust quiet without a muffler when you're not romping on the gas.

You could always hook up with ss-autocrap for all your exhaust manifold/piping needs.. - J/K :P

Agreed, you don't want a flow master, they don't go well with hondas, had one on a CRX Si (N/A) and it sounded like total rice :-[

Ok, thats good to know, cuz i was about to throw down 170 for the muffler!! Well does anyone know the price?? of a good muffler?? i want it to fit in the stock place, and not come out of the right side like on some exhaust.

thanks for the help

Re:Turbo Exhaust for a CRX

I found a Dynomax muffler on summitracing, and its only 2 1/4 inches, will that be sufficient? Also i found a dc sports catback, but it is only 2 inches.

I really need an exhaust bad, and it has to be inspected, like last week!!! so please post and help me so i can order it.

here is the dynomax http://store.summitracing.com/partde...rt=WLK%2D17452

Re:Turbo Exhaust for a CRX

Dont even bother with a muffler, just go straight pipe. If you are really worried with how loud it is going to be, just put on a resonator. I couldnt believe how much quiter my exhaust was with the turbo on. My next step is to ditch the muffler.

The reason i need an exhaust is because i have to get the ride inspected, lol, and want to go ahead and get a good exhaust for this summers turbo upgrade.

i emailed him, he said

its a turbo muffler. there is a muffler named that... its an old muffler
from a chevy turbo corvair... people use them on muscle cars. they are great

Re:Turbo Exhaust for a CRX

I'm wondering if that is the turbo name brand of muffler that we used to stock when I was working parts counter.. it was a $30 piece of ---- that used to blow apart.

I didn't think that there was one specific muffler sold for mid 60s chevy cars.. is this a stock muffler that was pulled off a junkyard car?

Re:Turbo Exhaust for a CRX

That muffler was like 35 bucks, I think he got it at pep boys. His car made good power with it, but I personally like something a bit louder, I say run 2 resonators and straight pipe and your good.

Turbos are mufflers :P

Re:Turbo Exhaust for a CRX

Yeah, I was wondering if they were that muffler, I used to sell them when I worked in auto parts like 6 years ago, they were cheap ass pieces of ----. One guy threw one on his 240 volvo (yeah he was a groupie, unlike me with full exhaust) and blew that POS apart. I had to refund him.

But hey, if they work for hondas, who knows. I always like exhausts on every car, but for some reason that whiny honda exhaust just gets annoying, I figure it's better to go silent.. not to mention it's harder to use some of todays common straight thru dual tipped mufflers on that generation of integras, since the pipes have an elbow from the muffler when directing the gasses out.

HMT-Admin 06-06-2004 03:25 PM

Re:Turbo Exhaust for a CRX

That whiney exhaust tone goes right away as soon as turbo goes on. It doesnt even sound like the same car. By chance have you watched any of HMT dyno vids? Some cars are NA and some are FI, you can really hear the difference.

i got it from an exhaust shop, and i pepboys doesn't sell them. on the camaro i have two of them... and we're talkin on a engine that makes 500 + ft-lbs of torque... they've lasted about 6-7 years and they're fine...

these turbo mufflers also flow either way... so you can put em in there whichever way fits best

Pepboys Schucks whatever, I use to work at Schucks like 7 years ago and we sold the exact same muffler dude.

Ya know I completely meant to watch some of those vids and forgot while I was on broadband.. guess I'll have to suffer on dialup speeds :'(

Nice camero, wish I had 500+ torque numbers.

I'm going to find some specs on that turbo muffler and see what's up with it.. I'm almost absolutely positive it's the same thing that we sold at Discount auto parts back in the day.. yeah it did blow up, I think it fell apart at one of the inlets.. I was never that impressed with those things.

Re:Turbo Exhaust for a CRX

Well I put one on my 83 RX-7 and I blew the ---- out of it twice. And it sounded really bad. It was like PdingPdingPding at idle. Then I got smart and put a better shinny muffler on it. Never had a problem. After that muffler I could shoot fire balls out the tail pipe. It was cool. I have a magnaflow and they are pretty quite and are straight through. I have one and so does NotPhilTran. He has a 3" on his. Sounds good and not buzzy. Clean deep tone. Get that. Oh and they mount in the stock place

Re:Turbo Exhaust for a CRX

I have to agree with peoples comments on Magnaflow mufflers. Very straight through and if/when put with the resonator to match very deep sounding. (this is all from my experience with them on an NA 1.8L though)

I lucked out and will have a 3in Thermal on my 1.6L-T project. If I ever remember/get around to it... I'll try to post vid/audio of it.

Re:Turbo Exhaust for a CRX

I'll have to check out the magnaflows.. would be nice to get max flow, less noise.. especially take away from the rice sound.

Because if it's glittery, it's got to be the best!

Re:Turbo Exhaust for a CRX

Got my Dynomax super turbo exhaust system, and my DNx midpipe. Its really nice and i like it, the only bad thing is i had to put my cat back on. The muffler is a nice deep sound, and i know i wont be getting any tickets for it because its is only loud when im WOT. Definetly not the ricer sound!! Deep like a WRX.
