turbo durability to foreign objects
 

I have a question for you guys.

say objects are sucked into the compressor, what would actually break the turbo?

say an o-ring got sucked into my turbo. would that kill it?

story behind the question: i was installing an aftermarket dv valve (mounted on teh compressor of my car), and an o-ring from the main seal got loose and sucked in, it now makes a slight dentist drill noise, quiet with stock intake, loud with aftermarket intake.

does this mean that the o-ring has killed it? its been 1000 miles now and the turbo still hasnt died.

If it was soft rubber you're probably fine. Just check your fins for damage and make sure the turbo spins freely still. Compressor wheels don't stand up to anything that's not soft lol. They spin at 100k+ rpm and that ---- will just end it, but rubber may have been soft enough it just disintegrated and shot it into your charge system. Hopefully it didn't make it through your throttle body, but a little bit of tiny rubber chunks probably wouldn't be all that major.

hmm, mine doesnt sound like that, even with my aftermarket intake on. its much higher pitched, but im sure all turbos are different.

i ran some boost logs again, and the turbo is still boosting just fine, its reaching the requested boost levels.

been to 2 dealers, one of them decidied to be an ass and say that i HAD an intake on the car and that they found a chip(which is impossible to do with their scan tools).

and the other one says its normal.

so if it was a soft rubber o-ring, say like the ones you find inside paintball guns... no damage could have been done right?

how would i go about looking inside my turbo? the inlet pipe is part of the compressor and extends all the way to the turbo itself, im pretty sure its a welded on inlet.
