Turbo dead?
 

ok...jdm 93 zc in eg hatch. tdo5 on cx manifold w/ 450cc and 255 walbro w/ afc hack @ 8 lbs. now...the you can hear the turbo spool but NO boost. i think the turbo is gone. ran fine for bout a month but now its dead. theres no leaks in intercooler pipes or anything. jeff...the tdo5 was kinda running out of steam after 6100 rpm. what should i get now to evenly boost my zc all the way to redline without any probs. I know you've had your share of zc turbos and you prob know the best turbo for a zc. i can get a ct-26 from a toyo. is that gonna give me a good small lag with a great top end? or is a larger t-3 better. need asap. no boost means im gonna have to drive slow :'(

both are good turbo's, but a T3 is easier to install.
Get a big T3 :)

running out of steam at 6100? I'm telling you guys, its those gay ass wastegate actuators on those things that make the 14b's feel like ----. Take the wastegate actuator off, throw a carb spring on and just go drive it, tell me what you think.

ok..sure..but how do you explain the NO boost now. even on low rpm's. i think the turbo is gone. i even see oil being burnt from the down pipe. i think its gone. but ok. now...for the carb spring. how the ..what the is that all about?how do you do that. carb spring from a carb? how do you hold it in? thx for the help though. i just got the t3 w/ .43/.48. this or the ct-26...dont know if its gonna lag.

hmmm That T3 isn't large i guess.

But the Ct26 does make good top end though

This is very simple, dont try to make it complicated, because its not..

- Take the wastegate actuator off (2 12mm's and a pin on the flapper)

- Get a small spring, (example is a carburator return spring) something that has some spungy tension and isnt to stiff. You can go to the hardware store, junkyard whatever to get one.

- Loop one end of the spring around the wastegate flapper hole.

- pull tension against the flapper (keep tension so the flapper will stay closed) pull the end of the spring until it feels pretty tight, loop it around a spot off the block/turbo whatever, just something that it can hold onto.

- Go test drive, see if you boost, If its to low, put more tension against it, if its to high loosen it up a bit. Dont be worried if it falls off because then you will have 0 boost.

Its very simple, and sometimes 14b wastegates act very gay and make it feel like the turbo isnt working anymore, just try it out before you condem the turbo, but you maybe right, it could be junk.

See the spring? now just pull tension somewhere, even the old wastegate mounting bolts might be good? probably not enough tension, but you could start their, I normally go off the block.

What does this do? basically its forcing the wastegate flapper SHUT, and the only way it will open is when enough pressure is forcing the flapper to open, this is where the spring tension comes into play. More tension harder it is for the flapper to open, THus more boost. Doing it this way can make the car spool incredibly fast, but its a bitch to adjust.

Ya know on the T3 kit on my LS, My internal gate has an 11lb spring. I dont run 11lbs so I turn down the wastegate down to keep it at about 7lbs and the only problem with that is it holds the flapper open a little so it spools slower. I thought of putting a carb spring on the opposite side to help pull the flapper open(working with the actuator). Does that make sense? Think it could work?

i am the king of carb springs. Plus when they wear out, the engine doesn't explode ;D
wastegate actuators are like women, you don't really need them, and you can still have fun without them ;)

Yah..having fun without women... no..sure racing and stuff if fun without women. But its hard to have fun in the sack without chicks unless your...you know.ew
