Re: turbo for Corolla

How much power are you trying to make?T25 spools like nobodys business and is dirt cheap.

Re: turbo for Corolla

for a 1.8l get a t3 or t3/t4 no less.

Is it Greddy T4 ? what's the difference between TD04 and T4 ? :)

Re: turbo for Corolla

you could almost stick a td04 in a t4 ;) what kind of hp goals are you looking for? going too big will cost you lag if your only looking for 200ish hp.

Re: turbo for Corolla

I had a t25 on my 4afe (1.6 liter version of what you have) and it was just "okay"

If I were you, I would get a T3 of some type, probably a .48/.60 or so. That would give you a better top end, which that car will definately need seeing as how the 7afe doesn't have it.

Re: turbo for Corolla

nothing smaller than a t3.

Re: turbo for Corolla

I'm looking for about 180-200 hp (standard 7A-FE is 120 hp)

to Snafubmx234: T25 on 4A-FE ? How much HP did U get?

Re: turbo for Corolla

I doubt many people here have run anything on that motor. But given the size of the motor you need at least a T3 on it, otherwise it would be a waste unless you do some really revving Auto-Xing.

Re: turbo for Corolla

I can think of a few turbo's that would make that power. t-bird ihi, td04hl-15g, t3, k26, t25...possibly and there are several other options if 180-200 is a starting point then yes a t3 .48/60 would be ideal if 180-200 will make you happy and you want quick spooling then i'd look at some I listed above. what do the toyota guys run for management?

Re: turbo for Corolla

i was running a 4age turbo last year with a t3 that came from an rb25det. fullboost was around 2800rpm and it can go up against modded type R's on 9psi of boost.

Re: turbo for Corolla

63/60 t3 will give you a good comprimise of spool and top end power on almost everything less than 2.0l.

Re: turbo for Corolla

Get a GE head. Then slap on a t25 or somthing. ;) My mate has a 4A-GTE in his ke, and its got a t25. Bitch makes 250hp on 17 psi, ------- crazy!!

Re: turbo for Corolla

A-fe blocks can't handle much power. The parts are too weak. I'd stick to something betwen a tbird ihi & a 48/60 @ a lower psi. Really pushing your luck running more than 210-230bhp through a 3s-fe / 4a-fe / 7a-fe over the long haul. I'd be hitting watter injection so fast it wouldn't be funny.
The good news for you, is that the FE head is going to spool a turbo faster than any of the equivilant GE's can - giving you more opportunity for more power. Assuming the engine can handle it without burning a hole in it's crappy pistons, toasting a ring, or spinning a rod.

If it's only makin 250hp at 17psi, you need a bigger turbo! Plus I couldn't imagine tat tiny turbo making boost that high!!! Would make more heat then boost!

Re: turbo for Corolla

i agree with the t25 being too small.but nothing to big coz when i switched to a 63/60 it lagged like hell on my 4agte

They're just the same as any honda d series engine, as well as the 5sfe and others. The 4afe rods are pretty beefy, and the engine took very nicely to 10 psi. Now, 17 psi was a different story, but that wasn't my fault ;)

Re: turbo for Corolla

i dont think they are that close to a honda engine. cast iorn block and solid deck. and honda d series are in no way beefy. their ------- toothpicks.

As far as using cast pistons, etc. It's not like a Toyota can't take boost and a Honda engine can. That's what I was trying to say.

guys..thanks 4 all your replies. A friend offered me TD04. What about it? Enough for daily use? (about 8 PSi)

Re: turbo for Corolla

Hey buddy, I remember seeing a turbo corrolla site with different engines so I bet they have that engine in there most likely. By the way, there are allot of different type of 4age heads and intake manifolds to go along with it. A great head to use is the small port head (aka red top) with the non-tvis manifold for 300 hp or less. I've heard faster spool up time which is concidentally the same head I'll be using for my turbo setup. My management will be a Megasquirt extra. I'll look for that link for the turbo corrolla site. Hopefully, I will find it today.
Toyotas are super strong motors and 8 psi should not be a problem if tuning and quality of the
engine (piston rings, seals, gaskets, etc) are up to par.

Found a couple links for you. The turbo corolla site is: http://www.turbocorolla.com/home/default.htm
Also found a link to a 550 hp 4age turbo (4agte):
http://forums.club4ag.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=123477
I hope this helps you buddy. Let us know how your project goes!!! If I find anymore I'll send it your way.

A TD04 is a mitsubishi turbo. Smallish frame. Usually about the size, in flow, to a T25/28. Usually 340cfm is about all you'll get from one of these, depending on the compressor.

A T4 is a Garrett turbo. Larger frame than the T3's. Great for highly built motors needing huge amounts of flow(T04B) or higher pressure ratios (T04E). These can flow over 750cfm depending on the compressor.
