Turbo for B16

Guys! im using a V27 Nissan turbo for my B16a which is on stock internals. Im getting a feel that my car get slowwer on high end. So im looking forward to change my turbo.

The turbos avaliable in our market easily are
1. Toyota CT26
2. Garett M24 .60 a/r
3. Holset (dont know the model but its big)

what would u recommed with a B16????

is tthere anyother turbo which would work like a gem???? Name it. and i'd go and search for it in my junkyard :)

Re: Turbo for B16

57 trim or a 60 trim or are you trying to say 57 trim, 60a/r? There is quite a difference there....

Re: Turbo for B16

Im using a ct26 with t04e inernals...very agressive once it kicks in
Altho even a ct26 is way too small .. the real fun starts with a Gt35R or something like that :6 :6 :6

Are u using a CT26 in a B16??? how much boost are u running??? howz the pull??? when do u get full boost? does it pulls good even in third and fourth gear???? let me know please im curious

who else here uses a CT26 or 0.60a/r turbo in their B16???

anothercivic 07-26-2006 04:26 PM

Re: Turbo for B16

I've got a 57trim-.60a/r /// .63a/r stageIII on my b16a. I'm currently only running .45 bar but that will be changing very shortly. Full boost is at about 3500 with a ramhorn manifold and 2" IC piping. Pulls hard. The a/r on the compressor side isn't gonna really tell you what you need to know though. You need to figure out the trim on the compressor side and the a/r on the turbine side.

Yep ct26 BUT with t04e internals ..Running 5.8psi at the moment but soon getting tuned for 10.
Turbo kicks very aggressive , full boost at about 4000 rpm.
Third and fourth gear no problems pulls dam hard all the way to redline.
Oh and make shure your turbo is from the supra not mr2 as the mr2 turbo isn't as big.

Re: Turbo for B16

stay away from ANY toyota turbos. They are a bitch to install (not standard), rebuild, modify or just finding replacement parts for that mather.

The holset turbos from diesel pick up trucks are good reliable ones but very big for a B16. it will lag.

For a crisp and pleasant turbo response without breaking the bank on a B16 that is stock i would recommend a stage 1 t3/t04E. It,s important to ask for a 0.63 a/r turbine (0.48 too small for the B16) and the compressor trim, if you're shooting for a reliable 300HP, 46, 50, or 54 trim would be great. 57 and 60 trim could work but with more lag and some extra capacity that the stock engine can't use.

If the ------ wants to use a Toyota turbo let it be :6

Re: Turbo for B16

Im dropping the plan of putting up a CT26 :(, i went to the local junkyard and found out that the CT26 which we have here in pakistan are from toyoa Landcruisers.

Do u think that they are similar to the one found in supra? or mr2?? how can i identifyh the supra CT26??

sorry for being on ur nerves but can anyone here tell me what is A/R (written on trubo) and whats .57 or .60 trim size means???? hhow can i identify the trim size? cuz ppl in the junkyard know ---- about anything

BLAAST 07-27-2006 08:17 AM

Re: Turbo for B16

Yeah maybe the toyota turbo you are looking for is just a CT12 or a CT20. Not sure what the landcruiser came with in your area!!
XTERNAL is right though... for a cheap HMT project, there's no problem using a toyota turbo. Only problem, you can't change it for anything else without having to redo manif and downpipe since the toyota flanges are odd.

THe numbers stamped in the GARRETT housings is the a/r. It's not a SIZE. it's the ratio between the area of the nozzle (throat) of the housing and the distance separating it from the central axis of the turbo. (i.e. you can have a 100 HP turbo and a 1000 HP turbo, both with the same a/r)
Basically, a lower a/r will concentrate the exhaust (or air) MORE to increase velocity, which makes a better spool up at the expense of max power.

The trim is not written anywhere on a turbo. it's the ratio between the square of the smallest and largest diameters of a wheel. Same as for the a/r the trim is not directly related to HP but since the larger diameter of the wheels is basically the constant accross a comrpessor familly such as t3, t04b, or t04e, the trim increases with the HP as only the smallest diameter changes.

Re: Turbo for B16

Thanks for ur input

We have tons of CT12/20 avaliable here in the local market. many CT26 too but i guess they are off some Landcruiser or something.

What ill do is ill go to the junkyard again and get some pics to show it to u guys in case u can identify :)

Re: Turbo for B16

Update!

At the Junk yard we found a TO4b, brand new :D,
The A/R written on it were, 60 A/R Intake , 1.03 A/R ExHaust,
We dont know where did he get it but he is asking 250$ for it,
Dose it worth it, will need a External Waste Gate,

Needs your suggestion on it,

Thanks

Salman

Re: Turbo for B16

its a straight t4.....thats a pretty ------- big turbo, will hit pretty late like 6-7k if not later or at all, i think youll want something with a little bit smaller exhuast like a 63

salmang 08-02-2006 03:26 AM

Re: Turbo for B16

ok thanks,
we also found few KKK(k46) some with externel wastegate and some wthout,
CT26 is the turbo we are giving preference right now, but its hard to find one at the market,
should we go for k26, ??
Hope to hear from you guys soon,

Thanks
Salman

Re: Turbo for B16

250$ new is a sweet deal. If it's in a junkyard, it's certainly a real garrett!!!3
if there's a "XSP" on it, run away!

That'S most probably a 54 or 63 trim t04b.
Pretty nice compressor actually. Able of over 400 HP easily. But a strong performer in the 150-350 HP

cll77gen2teg is right, this turbo is useless for most any 4 cylinder

i can transform this "huge" T04B into a t3/t4 hybrid perfectly suited to ANY 4 cylinder engine.

Re: Turbo for B16

Guess I am out,
have to pick up one, KKK k26 or Ct26. no other turbo is avalable,.

BLAAST 08-07-2006 07:47 AM

Re: Turbo for B16

Then i would say go for the k26! it's a better turbo than the ct26.

salmang 08-10-2006 02:56 AM

Re: Turbo for B16

Blaast.
A hybrid turbo is avalable, as the guy says,
Its compressor side is bigger then CT26, there is Toyota written on it,
Ill post its picture later today,

BLAAST 08-10-2006 08:54 AM

Re: Turbo for B16

larger than CT26 toyota turbo??? I wonder what it comes from...
