Turbo Automatic
Just wondering if anybody has a turbo kit in an Automatic. Cause i'm currently doing a kit for an automatic integra Ls and was wondering how automatics take boost.
Please share your experiences. Thanks |
Re:Turbo Automatic
Not much boost as I've read, but there is an automatic cavalier on this site that is Boosted...

Re:Turbo Automatic
Semnos,
Actually there is a sunfire auto too ;) lol I'm not sure on the capabilites of your auto but ours are actually stronger than the manual transmissions. I beleive the tranny in my car and matts are rated up to 250 ft lbs of torque :) and I've seen them take 75 - 100 shots of nitrous without a problem. Mine as 135k on the trans and still holding strong |
Re:Turbo Automatic
sucks period.
u loose alot of power through an auto trani, plus they are pieces of ---- when it comes to holding power. if u really wanna go that route get a new tq converter. |
Re:Turbo Automatic
I know that auto tranny's are not great but my friend doesnt want to change it to a manual. I guess we will see what happens. ;D He will be runing 8-10PSI.

Re:Turbo Automatic
Not really worth the money that you have to pour into an auto to get what you want out of it. Now take a TH-400 or 700r4 (raptor) and you have an ass hauling transmission, but that's after a lot of money into it. What year car? I never liked those sport shift integra transmissions anyways.

Re:Turbo Automatic
LS TRANNIES CANNOT TAKE BOOST
i blew mine up with only a venom 400 tell ur friend hes gay and he should switch to stick 8-10psi lol...might as well leave it in neutral and rev it |
Re:Turbo Automatic
What year LS transmission?
|
Re:Turbo Automatic
2000 LS
|
Re:Turbo Automatic
I know an accord cant take it the tranny has needed a rebuild after only a few hundred miles.
|
Re:Turbo Automatic
yeah Airtronics...I meant you though, but I typed Cavalier...they're both the same so...
|
Re:Turbo Automatic
I have a '90 Integra RS automatic awaiting my return in florida. The transmission has about 5000 miles on a $1,400 rebuild. Too scared to boost it and break it. So I either do the swap to a cable tranny or just find another car to play with.
|
Re:Turbo Automatic
yeah i personally wouldnt like to find out... id just do the swap.
|
Re:Turbo Automatic
ive been boosted @6psi for a year, tranny seems fine... 98 civic ex.... just upped to 8psi 2day!
|
Re:Turbo Automatic
Iceman05: Cool. How does your car feel when boost kicks in?
We should be installing the kit within two weeks. I hope the tranny holds. |

Re:Turbo Automatic
Hmm... just don't know about that shitty LS automatic transmission.
I am a very firm believer in certain domestic transmissions (4L60/700r4) if properly built. But this shitty honda "sport shift" transmission. I've been in enough 90-93 accords to tell that it's pretty much the exact same piece of ----. Hate to destroy a transmission worth so much, either I can find a B20a preulde cable tranny for real cheap and throw that in, or just go out and find another project car (F22a1) to build a turbo on. Any other suggestions? |
Re:Turbo Automatic
quadnie- Its not a "sport shift" transmission.
For the record I have tried to get my friend to swap the tranny but he refuses. I think the tranny can take it as long as he stays with low boost. ;D |
Re:Turbo Automatic
Fist thing to do is get the best exturnal tranny cooler you can find !!!
Then look for replacments. My friend is going to be boost about 6 PSI on his accrod in a few months, then the H22 with come in... Then we'll see how long the auto H22 tranny last on 8-10psi. |
Re:Turbo Automatic
My DelSlow started as an auto (SOHC). The next upgrade was to convert to a manual. Huge differance
If your friend is looking for some pep. Then stick w/auto. For real fun, he'll have to do a conversion. |
Re:Turbo Automatic
i think by sport shift he means the engagement from gear to gear is ruff
on the newer civics its more like a dimmer than a gear shift |

I think the word "sport" is incorporated in there someplace. ----, I don't know.. that transmission has caused me enough grief then to have to look up the specs on it. I'll stick to being a shot caller on 700r4 and AW-71 auto transmissions. |
