turbine wheel removal? (already searched)
 
A friend of mine recently got a t3 .48/.60 and wanted to take apart the turbo too see if it needs rebuilding. I was wondering if anyone knows how to remove the turbine wheel? The bolt head looks to be like a triangle shape. also, when taking the turbo apart, what part do i mark? if I can't remove the turbine wheel, which i'm assuming i can't, what do i use to hold it so i can take off the compressor wheel?

I do not think the turbine wheel comes off. To get the compressor wheel off I held mine with a vice (the triangle thing). I had to be careful not to damage anything.

I had alot easier time holding the shaft on the right, than the shaft on the left.

I just marked and took pictures of the compressor wheel relative to the turbine wheel. That way I can get it back on in the same place.

For reassembly I also found this useful information (I forget where, slight different numbers from the other pictures):

Turbo-to Turbo manifold bolt: 40-47 ftlbs
Torque the compressor nut to 18-20 in-lb (that's INCH-pounds NOT foot-pounds)(1.5-1.6 ftlbs) Then continue to rotate the nut an ADDITIONAL 90 to 110 degrees. DO NOT use any sealers on the nut or shaft threads--the nut is self locking.
Tighten compressor housing to 145-165 in./lbs (12-14 ftlbs)
Turbine housing to 185-200 in./lbs.(15-17 ftlbs) Make sure turbine wheel does not contact the housing in any position.
Backplate 8 ft-lbs ( Correct me if Im wrong found two different torque specs on this.)
Oil drain flange 34ft-lbs
Oil inlet flange 38ft-lbs
Downpipe flange to turbo exhaust housing Torque to 32-40 ft-lbs

Yep, the turbine wheel and shaft are one piece.

the bolt head is a triangle shape and different between your two turbine wheels/shafts because thats how they are balanced. Part of the nut is ground off of the turbine side
