torque brake = boost
well, as we all know, there need to be a load on the engine for the turbo to build boost... well what if you have the front wheels up in the air... so they can spin freely... now if you have it in gear and torque brake/power brake (foot on gas and brake at same time), wouldnt that cause one hell of a load to be put on the engine resulting in boost? reason i ask is because i need to make some boost to clear out any ---- that might be in my charge pipes before i make the last connection to the throttle body...

Re:torque brake = boost
its called brake boosting.
|
Re:torque brake = boost
ahh, so then my theory does work huh? muahahaha
|
Re:torque brake = boost
::)Um ya but you should probly go with an air compressure and a blow gun less hassel ::)

Re:torque brake = boost
Cars vibrate while accelerating.
Vibration+acceleration+boost+floor jacks=death! |
Re:torque brake = boost
roger that squierly control ;D

Re:torque brake = boost
I was just kidding, its not like I made a post just talk ----, I posted advice and my opinion on what he was trying to do. Does it really bother you that much?

Re:torque brake = boost
whitey im not tryin to be an ass but everytime he posts something someone says drive your cav off a cliff or some stupid cav joke, its not funny anymore thats all
|
Re:torque brake = boost
cavaliers equal about as much fun as gettin a rectal plug. and im allowed to say this cause i own one for a beater and its the gayest car on earth

i dunno why people think hondas and acuras are such great interior cars. my ls integra has shitty interior, and i havent seen a honda with nice interior spare one with leather seats. |
Re:torque brake = boost
the o3 and up cavys maybe, but older ones are ------- garbage. they were clearly designed for those of us living off food stamps with 7 ratty malnurished kids

Re:torque brake = boost
03-05 are the same damn thing as 95-02. diff headlights, hoods, fenders and bumpers, thats all. ecotec engine also came in 00+ j-bodys... sooo really if you think the 03s are alright, then the whole 3rd generation platform is alright to you... unless of course your going strickly off looks since the 03+ ones come with stock body kits most of the time.

Re:torque brake = boost
i guess to answer your question, haha lol how are you going to build boost without the charge pipe connected to the engine hahahaha, that's such a funny question. just leave it and rev the engine, the air flowing out the pipes will be enough to clean all the crap in there.
|
Re:torque brake = boost
huh? no, i had all the pipes connected except right by the tb. i didnt want anything to get sucked in, so i left that part unhooked... but alls done with now anyways. ;D
|
Re:torque brake = boost
Just fyi, The whole thing is moot anyway. You don't need boost, you just need airflow. Pressure doesn't push anything thru the pipes, flow does. You'll make plenty of flow even if you don't apply the brakes, just no pressure becuase the engine will be moving too quickly for it to build up in the IM at the low throttle angle you'd be using to do it.

Re:torque brake = boost
Actually best thing you can do is stick your charge pipes (if they fit) in the dishwasher with no soap. It will clean out any bits of metal or anything in there.
|
Re:torque brake = boost
i always fill mine with water and shake them around before i put them in
|
Re:torque brake = boost
like i said, all taked care of ;) ...leaf blowers are nice... ;D
|
Re:torque brake = boost
leaf blower would work to :)
|
Re:torque brake = boost
its called brake boosting. |
Re:torque brake = boost
dude mr. turbo cavalier guy, how do you build boost with the end of your pipe not connected to anything, it's like a big huge air leak.
|
Re:torque brake = boost
mr. super guy, i wasnt trying to build boost as in actual pressure, i was trying to get a lot more air flowing. but like i said, i got it all taken care of.

Re:torque brake = boost
I just had to add something in case someone else looks up this thread.
Accelerating while the car is lifted in the area, and causing the wheels to turn is extremely harsh on the Constant Velocity (CV) joints as well as other suspension parts. I can't explain why, my suspension book really doesn't dig much further into it. They suggest doing this to test out wheel bearings, but to do it extremely slowly because of how devestating it can be on the suspension. So for future reference, don't do this :) |

Re:torque brake = boost
I figured it had something to do with the fact that there was no weight on the suspension, and the car is designed to run with weight on it. But I wasn't sure "exactly" because frankly, my teacher did a ------- terrible job explaining the CV joints to us :)

When I worked at a stereo shop 3 years ago I was delevering a customers car that was a Auto convertable Z24 and one of the guys that worked at the shop was folling me in his 00' civic Si that had some bolt-ons.
Short story shorter, he barely pulled on the bone stock auto, convertable Z24... I'd bet a manual hard top Z24 would have bet him... |
