too strong oil press harm turbo?
Guy's,
Does anyone of you here heard before saying that overstrong oil press will kill turbo? |
Re: too strong oil press harm turbo?
Yes high oil psi can blow seals.Thats what restrictors are for and some turbos even have them built in.

Re: too strong oil press harm turbo?
and avoid that black smoke in ur car. right?

Re: too strong oil press harm turbo?
It won't kill the turbo right off, and it may not kill the turbo at all.
High oil pressure causes oil to enter compressor or turbine housings, resulting in smoke or burning oil (which is dangerous to the engine). What can go wrong is the oil burns and cokes up... I've seen turbos that the coking could be chiselled off and be good as new afterward. Sometimes it will kill the turbo, though, but it takes a couple days (or longer) to do so. |
Re: too strong oil press harm turbo?
coz i do suspect its the main reason why my turbo failed me. My 1st unit of IHI RHB52 last me only a months before it blew white smoke and since after i replaced it till now, its about 7-8 months and samething happen again. I was thinking it cant be the turbo so fragile and keep dying and my mech suspect it could be the oil press too high which i dunno shld i believe or not

Re: too strong oil press harm turbo?
is there anyway i can check my oil press (simple way) other thn using oil press gauge by installing oil filter adapter?
|
Re: too strong oil press harm turbo?
im almost 100% sure thats why my car is burning oil so bad. i seen a small hole in one of my welds on my change pipes and there is oil all around it where its blowing it out tomorrow (HOPEFULY IF THEYRE OPEN!!) im going to cross to get a restrictor valve.
