toast

Well, crushing my dsm to the point of no return and finally buying a new bov from ebay which did the same thing, I finally figured out why my turbo wouldn't boost past about 5-6 psi. I rerouted the vac to a new source and problem is solved! So I'm lighting the tires up at the top of 2nd gear (about 50 mph) 8) and having a grand ole time boosting 9 psi. when all of the sudden I hear this sickening rattling noise. I pull over in a drive way and the thing sounds like it is gonna rattle itself to pieces. I don't even have to pop the hood to smell the coolant. It is all over the front of the bay. I have yet to do a compression test, but I'm guessing A) the head gasket let go, B) the head lifted (using the stock studs), C) the coolant in the cylinders possibly caused one or more rods to let go. I can't imagine it is making all of that noise if it is just a problem of some coolant/oil mix. It still runs ok (taking it easy for a mile or so getting it back home), but that rattle sounds like death. I am sooo in the dumps right now. I finally had my setup running... For like 15 minutes... :-[ :'( :'( :'(

That suck man.

Hopefully it isn't anything to pricey, just ahead gasket and some head studs. If not if you can spare the cash maybe you can beef it up a bit.

So what exactly did you crush in the beginning of the post? The 1g dsm bov?

Did a compression test today and got results from about 175 down to 145, or in that vicinity. It wasn't as bad as I was expecting. Time for a rebuild. If only I can convince my wife to approve the purchase of about $1000 worth of parts now. :-X If I'm gonna tear it apart, I might as well build it back better.

And yeah. I crushed the bov. And it was fine all along. What a waste! ::) >:(

btw, the plugs all had little greenish specs on them when I pulled em. I'm guessing this means the head gasket ruptured pretty much everywhere? That doesn't seem likely, so I'm thinking maybe it just sucked some coolant into the filter (right behind the overflow tank that it appeared to have spewed out of) and that is the cause of my problem. But I have no idea what caused it to spew from the overflow tank like that (I'm assuming that is where it came from). Anyone ever heard of that happening without a blown headgasket being the culprit? First blown engine, so I've got a lot of ideas floating around my head, but nothing solid yet.

EDIT: due to the compression numbers, I'm guession the gasket can't be ruptured EVERYWHERE, so i'm leaning towards the sucking it in the intake idea...

Crushing 1g DSM BOVs is never the answer. If going for high boost, buy a real BOV.

Come on now.. Crushing 1g DSM bov's is good for the budget setup.. Hold's an extra 3-6psi.

Plus I get all excitied when I put a DSM Part in the Vise ;D
