timing retard

how many degrees per psi should i retard my timeing? i have a 99' ex and wanted to boost it to 6 or 7 psi. i was looking at the MSD #5462 and it looks like it would work good but don't know anybody useing one. does anybody know anything about them?

Re:timing retard

1 degree per pound seems to be the rule of thumb
or .5 per pound.

Re:timing retard

start with .8 and work your way down.. 1.0 is overkill, I had most of my setups around .4-.7ish

Should there always be timing retard with any turbo setup not using Stand alone managment or is it not always needed?

Re:timing retard

good rule of thumb to follow, but yes u should retard your timing when ur boosting
unless the car comes stock boosted.

I have a question, someone said in a post that the computer will automatically retard the timing if detonation occurs. Is this true? Or is this only on stock boosted cars. If i do end up using a water injection system, how do i know how much timing to allow?
