timing?
what ive done is messed about with the timing by turning the dizzy without the use of a timing light, so what i need to know is how do i put the timing back to stock? ive turned it back to where i started from but i wanna make sure that it is in the exact same spot as when i started.
is there some kind of figure that i need to get it back to? Matt |
Re:timing?
Go get yourself a light, it dosnt have to be teribly expensive, just make sure it has an inductive pickup (it clips on the #1 spark plug, and picks up when current flows through it). You cant do it by ear or butt dyno.

Re:timing?
First, drive your car until it reaches norm temp. There is connector either under the glovebox or on the driver side of the engine compartment. Jump the two terminals with a paperclip or smaill wire.
Second, there are 3 bolts that bolt your distruber to your head, just loosen them and youll be able to turn the ditributer by hand Third, start your car and hook up the light, when you turn the distributer you should hear the engine sound change. Shine the light on your crank pulley and look for the TDC mark and another three marks about 15-20 degrees in advance of the TDC mark. There is a aimer that looks like a gun scope. Turn the distributer until you see the middle mark lined up in the sights. Tighten up your ditributer bolts and remove the jumper. Lastly, get yourself a helm manual or download from the net for your car, all the basic maintainece stuff is in there |
Re:timing?
is that the same connector that you use to get the CEL codes from?
btw, that last post was very very helpful. Matt |
