tial look alike, ssauto external wg? psi and do they work good?

i was thinking of buying a ssauto wg, not sure if it is, but ya, its like a 7.8 or 8.3 psi spring in it. just wondering if anyones had any bad things happen using them, or do they work good like a tial? its a 35mm i think, im getting it for 100shipped, and its brand new. all peices of it. u think its a good deal since they go for 150new shipped from them? and can i increase the boost without getting a new spring? please help me out, im building a decent kit, and i thought that the wgs should work ok. im not useing anything else from them, its just my friend isnt useing his. thanks -blake

Hotrex and a few guys run them. I know hotrex's the diapham took a crap on him, and only after a few weeks I think. I'd like to say you get what you pay for, but I'm running an OBX lsd and have no qwuams with it. Save your money, or get an Audi one.

i run ssac wastegate, its about the only thing that hasnt given me ---- yet, but the supposedly 8.7 psi spring, only gave me 7 psi, and this is a 60 trim t3 on a b16 with open 2 1/2" exhaust (no cat no muffler) and open wastegate dump tube as well, the tial 10.15 psi spring took me up to about 9 psi......

People normally hook the wastegate up from the turbo compressor right? Wouldn't that result in the engine not seeing the full boost because of the IC pressure drop?

For example, if your wastegate is set to 7 psi connected to the turbo....the wastegate sees 7psi.....opens...and then the engine sees 7psi-pressure drop from IC.

So if you hooked the wastegate vacuum line up after the intercooler, the wastegate would theoretically open at like 8-9 psi on the compressor side...but the engine would see the 7 psi?

I've been running one for a while. It started getting loose and the whole top rattled around. If that happens, remove all the allen bolts, pop the top off of it, tighten down the 19mm nut inside, and you're good to go. Mine hasn't given me problems since.

i just got it, it is in perfect shape, brand new, since u guys said there wanst any real big issues, but can u tell a big diff between these and tial? and how high boost can i run wiht a 8psi spring , cant i use a boost controler even if the spring is only made for that? ill prob upgrade to a tial later, but this was a good price, im gona get a 14psi spring too.

Hotrex ran one for a while, the rubber diaphragm broke

Some people complain of boost creep, but they also run SS Autochrome manifolds.

Alec has had good luck with his so far.

I see about a 1psi difference between switching signal location from compressor to intake mani.

so his 8psi spring would probably push 8psi on the intake mani. Alec's does.

mine is also quiet from some reason and even with the vac running off the IM with a 8.7 spring I see about 7-7.5...........other than that it has worked fine for me

i have one as weel and my only word of caution to you is that if you get one you take the top off and check the spring before putting it on. they sent me the wrong one and when iw as supposed to get 6 psi i really got 14.7 so you can see that would be a problem but now i have a built block and it hold nice as ---- at 14.7 sometimes in fourth i spike to 17 but it kinda holds it there for a little so its not too bad.

I use one on a hf mani with 7.25 psi spring.
It runs 7.25 psi always.
Everygear, even fifth at 6k rpm.

Good for now, who knows how long though.

id be happy if it had a 14 psi spring lol, kinda, i want to run 8-14 so ya, im not useing a ssauto mani, i think im gona use my bmc stlye elf mani, and use my ramhorn when im built. so ya, when that happens ill get a tial wg and crap. so ya kinda happy i got one and ill know what kind of boost ill be running when i use it this summer, also, where do i hook the vac and press hoses on on this and the blow off valve, do i need one of those vac log things? just want to do everything right the first time ;D no broken ring lands or nothin :'(

I bought my 38mm brand new from ssauto on ebay for liek $120 somethign shipped. He gave me one with a 14.7 psi spring instead of the 6 psi spring as well.

To find out what spring you have, go on ebay and sear for wastegate springs or look under his other auctions. Thast how I fund out that the light blue spring was 14.7 and the red one was 6.

I thought hotrex bought hi used and it had seen some abuse before he bought it or somethign? His is the only failure I have heard about so far. They are pretty good quality IMO. He even provides flanges for the manifold and dump tube.

they dont have dark green on their list :(

maybe he'll answer his email; in the mean time someone wanna trade a possibly 1 bar spring for a lower pressure? :-/

enough said, pony up the extra 40 dollars for the real tial 38mm or youll be spending the wg money twice like i did and a hell of alot more to rebuild your blown motor when the wastegate fails.....

but, if u wanna learn the hard way be my guest.

I have one and it has the 5 pound spring in it and it pushes around 8 psi or so! Not sure whats up with that! But other then that it seems to work fine!

mine took a crap after 3 weeks at 9psi on my turbo focus.

the diaphram just blew apart.

also they said they gave me a 8psi spring, but when i ran it. it was like 12
