for those running throttle body exhaust cutouts, i have a few Q's

okay guys so im looking into matching up my moates 2 timer deal with an exhaust cutout for when it gets dynoed...

i have been told that some on here have done it with throttle bodys, specifically 5.0l throttle bodies.

i found some stuff online for like $150, but since this is hmt i thought i could use a thottle body and lever type design...

if you did this i could really use some info, ill be searching around the site too

maybe you should search first and ask questions later? its a pretty ------- common question asked with a few installs and how-to's

now go ---- yourself, ---- your sister, ---- your mom, then tape your mom ------- your sister without your dick and/or voice in the video

I used a d16 throttle body and a generic choke cable and some springs and some ----

thanks,

matt

Still gotta find a place that wont interfere with my flex pipe, wideband, high-flow cat, and test pipe, with it still being effective.

Test pipe or cat has got to go.

Re: for those running throttle body exhaust cutouts, i have a few Q's

nice, i guess i just gotta decide either buy one or make my own... making it would probably be really easy, but im just not sure how id run the cable for the throttle body, or what the latch would be... like a little e brake cable??? and will i have to mess with the throttle body itself to keep the pressure in..., changing springs, messing with the plate..?

what throttle bodies are you guys running?! all these honda ones are aluminum, are the chevy ones steel? i want to weld it stright to the ehxuats pipe...

Re: for those running throttle body exhaust cutouts, i have a few Q's

universal choke cable from any parts store should work :8

instead of welding it why not clamp it :8 :8

got any pics of how you clamped it???

i don't run a cutout. i just had the idea.

hmm.. i just gotta find a way to make it work.. i may need to find a different type of throttle body mabye

Re: for those running throttle body exhaust cutouts, i have a few Q's

About 4 ft off your downpipe, add this:

http://www.jegs.com/p/Dynomax/761547/10002/-1

Add the throttle body to one end and voila.

I had one of these cutouts laying around. I just never got around to adding a flapper and integrateing it into the downpipe. ----, my downpipe was only 2 feet long because i was such a lazy ----------er...... Shop wasn't even 5 minutes down the road.

Re: for those running throttle body exhaust cutouts, i have a few Q's

yea imean making that little piece is no problem.. its the whole getting the throttle body welded/bolted/ clamped to the exhaust is what im trying to figure out. the choke cable is a great idea cause you can buy a locking one, so that wont be a problem...

thanks,

matt

Re: for those running throttle body exhaust cutouts, i have a few Q's

NAPA has the stainless exhaust clamps that are like 8" long and strap around the pipe, use pipe and a clamp the same OD as the TB.

Re: for those running throttle body exhaust cutouts, i have a few Q's

i talked to slos13, who did the same on his miata. ill use a stock d series throttle body, cause they fit real tight in a 2.5in echaust, and i bought the choke cable which should work pretty good, lets see!

idiot-stick 02-04-2009 10:36 AM

Re: for those running throttle body exhaust cutouts, i have a few Q's

I remembered after we talked that I had to grind down the throttle body's lip to get it to fit but an angle grinder will make quick work of aluminum

You have a Miata, and have kept me ignorant of it's build? BAN

2 Attachment(s)
I plan on trying this setup out soon.... 70mm cutout, electric, off a 04+ gm 3800 motor.

Attachment 10203
Attachment 10204

Should be plenty heat tolerant... its an all steel design. It is made of alum though.. so I dont know what sort of thermal properties that would give me issues with... I plan on making the mounting holes on the steel flange very large to allow for expansion.

Keep that in mind. Dont take too much material off at once. It's easier to take away than it is to add.

Wow, i made 2 posts in your thread without catching on fire. :y

Duh, uh I meant to say that the motor/electric bits are all steel, (as in no plastic gears or whatever) and the body of made out of a cast aluminum white metal... The melting point should be a bit higher than pure aluminum, and have heating properties similar to aluminum (aka it basically will go from fine to a bubbly mess in a small temperature difference).

Yea I am a dumbass... here is some porn...

hahah nice, i just think the manual way is going to be a lot lighter and easier.. just take some of the throttle body spring off so its not so tense, and run the choke cable to it.. simple, right? im going to pick up the throttle body here on saturday, ill keep you guys updated.
