Is there a problem or is this okay?
Okay here's the concern. While changing my oil today I noticed something that is probably very bad. I noticed in the old oil as I was emptying it some tiny shavings of metal. Some of them were small and some looked almost like glitter. After changing my oil for years I have never seen this that is why I was wondering what was up. Is it time to get a new car and let some poor bastard deal with the problems or is this just old age showing. By the way it's a 1998 d16y8 with only 90K on it. I have the parts to do a turbo but will it be worth it. Thanks any replies welcome. 8) 8)

It's just glitter. Have any strippers ridden in your car lately? That would explain it....or a rod bearing or something.

Re: Is there a problem or is this okay?
It was probably the stripper problem. On all serious notes though has anyone ever had this problem. The only other possible cause that I could think of is i put an oversized self tapper oil drain plug in maybe it's the shavings from that. Hmmm it just dawned on me. I've been thinking about that crap all day too. :-\

self tapping oil plug? wtf?

Re: Is there a problem or is this okay?
Nig probably stripped it and used a bigger bolt (self-tapper) and if you see THAT much stripper dust it's NOT from your ghetto-tapper. I'm with SloS13, before I read his funny post (stripper glitter LOL) my guess was rod bearings. How you do that on a N/A y8? Beyond me. I have a boosted y8. No stripper dust yet.

Re: Is there a problem or is this okay?
what color was the "glitter"? Usually speaking on most plane bearings when they make contact, the flakes created are a goldish-bronze color. If you see either, take a long screwdriver and hold it to the block and press your ear on it, and listen for any knocking, do it on all 4 cylinders. if you dont notice any, than its probly crank bearings, and youll hear a knocking at higher rpms, or possibly a funny wirring noise. anyways, thats just my xperiance with bearings and such, hope it helps
