Default Testing turbo and wastegate?

OK, well this might be a stupid newb question but can I just bolt up everything (manifold, turbo, oil line, wastegate) pretty much run with out any charge pipe and see if my turbo is ok? Use the boost guage and see if my wastegate is gonna spike? I figure if i do it this way there won't be any negative effects like forcing to much air and not enough fuel and if the seals leak in the turbo i won't have oil all over my charge pipes. I might be stupid but to me it seems like it should work fine...thanks, Matt

Should be no problem. With my stang, I just hooked the headers up to the turbos, the oil fittings and ran them. That is how I have been checking for oil leaks. I just hooked the maf to the throttlebody and plugged in the O2 sensors and let them hang. I don't even have down pipes on the turbos. Not really that loud all things considered: 5.0 motor and turbos for mufflers!

i dont suggest u do that because you can over spin your turbo or whatever the ---- its called. you'll ---- it up put it this way if you try to drive around with it. you can check if the turbo seals are good that way. but u will never catch boost ever!!! and yes it was a very noobish question

Just thinking out loud.. What if you took a radiator hose and filled it with steel wool or something to create resistance to the air and capped it off with a rubber plug with a few small holes and connected that to the compressor outlet? That would prevent the turbo from overspooling.. Are there any other considerations?

or he could just ease into a 3rd gear pull and watch the boost gauge like everybody else. Keep the cold pipe/throttle body silicon connector on a bit loose just in case you get a sudden spike or something.

great now everyone thinks i'm dumb again, this post is so old now and I've been educated. For anyone who was dumb like me don't do this you will overspin the turbo and you'll never see boost without any charge pipping. After some people posted earier I realized why it wouldn't work

owned. You should have a HMT install next week. That would be pretty cool.
