Teflon or not

so i'm going to install a oil press. gauge tommrow with one of tuner toys take offs. i've heard mixed reports about using teflon tape with any oil fittings involved.

What do you guys think/recomend, and whats the reasoning?

Re: Teflon or not

If you are using NPT fitting, telfon is required. The "T" mean taper fit, which does not seal.

You don't use teflon on flare fittings, like -AN and such.

I used it on the block fitting, 2.748279798745 years strong, and growing.

Your ---- should like just slide right on out and leave your cornhole sparkling clean since nothing should stick to it with the telfon your eat. lol.

Just make sure you wrap the tape correctly. It should only be wrapped one way.

I use that or pipe dope. Just don't go overboard and get it in the oil.

Re: Teflon or not

Put it on everything except the angled end of a fitting to be installed into a stainless hose end. The hose end fitting gets anti-sieze, finger tight plus one "face".

I love teflon tape. I put wrapped it around one of the exhaust donut gaskets on my truck to stop a leak and it worked great. lol

Re: Teflon or not

angled or taperd ends dont need any tape, but ill put a dab of pipe dope on it just for reassurance. this type of metal on metal compression fitting whould suffer from a leak by using tape. any other threaded fitting ill use dope, tape, dope. that combo will hold over 100 psi if the threads are good.
