TE04H, can the center section be rotated? What about coolant lines?

I've seen the thread about rotating the center section of a T3, is this the same for the Mitsu TE04H (chrysler jy turbo)?

Also, how important is it to have coolant running to it? I seem to remember it not being totaly critical on some turbos, I just wondered if that applied to this one.

Yes you can rotate it, just get a snap ring pliers and rotate the compressor housing wherever you need it, aslo, the v-band clamp holding the turbine houseing on can be loosened and moved if you pull it apart and file down a little tab they have on there. If you clock it you will need to find another spot to mount the wastegate. I am running coolant through mine, but it should be fine without it.

These are fun little turbo's they spool instantly and mine holds 10 psi all the way to redline. but its only on a little d15b7

Well, mines going to be going on a 5SFE (1991 celica GT-S) ... 135hp stock 6K redline, fairly low comp, so I figured it would be a pretty good fit.

On what part is the tab that needs to be filed?

when you take off that v-band clamp and pull the housing off the CHRA you will see what I mean, I believe there is one on the compressor housing side too, its just a little tab that sticks out and sets into a hole in the CHRA so the housings are lined up so the wastegate fits. Pull it apart and you will figure it out pretty quick, that big ass snap ring is a bitch you will prolly need to get creative in order to get it on and off. I think I used some small bolts and stuck them in the holes and used a channel lock pliers to squeeze them together in order to get that bastard out.

So lets say you file down the tab, then what stops the compressor housing from turning/spinning?

So the turbine housing and the center section can both be moved then?

apparently... both the housing and center can be rotated, and both have a tab you can file down (on the compressor housing, you dont even need to file down the tab, you can just pull it out with needle nose and replace it later if required. UPDATE: both of the pins installed to stop the housings from rotating can be removed with a vicegrips or needle nose, !!no need to grind it down!!) and both have very tight/secure clamps so there is no need to worry about it rotating if you put it together correctly.

so it turns out that the oil IN MUST be coming from the top, so the center section does need rotating. but i cant for the LIFE OF ME get the ------ son of a bitch apart... anyone have any tips? Heres a pic of how far ive gotten...

Does anyone know how come the two pieces wont seperate? is there another snap ring inside there somwhere holding it together? is it rust? does anyone know the design behind how the flanges merge?
Dan
