tdo5 on 4ag
wondering if anyone thinks this setup would be feasable for a 1.6 4ag
its that or a 14b. found a 16g for 250. |
Re: tdo5 on 4ag
Bluetop, redtop or GZE? Stock internals?
|
Re: tdo5 on 4ag
redtop with gze pistons (not sure which ones)
havent found gze injectors yet. looking for some. dont really wanna go with 7m injectors too big maybe 3sg would be good. .5mm trd headgasket rebuilt bigport head with tvis fmic from saab 9000 |

Re: tdo5 on 4ag
sweet score
it just sounded funny becouse all your parts sound pretty technical then it said saab intercooler and it sounded funny |
Re: tdo5 on 4ag
yeah huh
|
Re: tdo5 on 4ag
Cool, the GZE pistons are key to any 4ag turbo setup. As far as i'm concerned, go for the tdo5, just keep boost in check. Get some 3sgte injectors-~440 cc and I believe low impedance as well but dont quote me. Is this engine in an AE86?
|
Re: tdo5 on 4ag
GZe shortblock, 440cc SUPRA injectors, megasquirt
I'm using a 14b works fine. |

May I suggest 86-92 mk3 supra N/A injectors? I THINK there like 390cc's (dont quote me) low imp. and would be a drop in affair. If your set on NOT gettign the 440's. |
Re: tdo5 on 4ag
so i guess the tdo5 is usually with 450 and the 440s would be closest.
thanks for all the input everyone. i am going to go with the tdo5 and keep a close watch on boost. as for injectors maybe ill get both sizes as the junkyards are almost always in abundance of them. |
Re: tdo5 on 4ag
BTW I hope your gonna Megasquirt that sucker.
Dont even think about using an SAFC. YOur engine will die a quick death. SAFC wont work with those early LH-jetronix rip off denso systems. :6 I dont feel like explaining it for the billiionth time, so just trust me and make your life easier. |

Re: tdo5 on 4ag
yeah ive only heard bad things about the safc on the corolla.
megasquirt keeps popping its little head up but theyre mad expensive. guess its better to fork out the money the first time rather than doing a job twice and costing more. |
Re: tdo5 on 4ag
megasquirt expensive? now i've heard it all :-)
|
Re: tdo5 on 4ag
well what have you seen a megasquirt sell for. if my memory isnt failing me theyre like around 500. thats expensive to me.
|
Re: tdo5 on 4ag
www.diyautotune.com best service ive ever had.

4age is a stout little motor, but even the strongest engine will fail with the lack of/improper tuning. $500 is probably the most you could spend on a megasquirt. Thats pretty damn cheap for a standalone fuel/ignition computer. If you try to piggyback the LH type system, you will get owned hard. |
Re: tdo5 on 4ag
http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/m...a3771fc263a5b0 looks like half that to me still, you could buy the v2.2/ms1 as a kit and build it youself for less again. my ms2 setup cost me about 200us with my staff discount on components where i was working back in the day when you could just buy a board and chip. like the man says, you are wasting your time without proper tuning. what about those chrome/hondata thingys? they any good? cheap? powerful enough? i know nothing about them, but maybe you could waste some time retrofitting a honda ecu and use that for less still. correct me if my guess is wrong. |
Re: tdo5 on 4ag
actually, mine may have cost me less, heres the latest smd factory built job for 430 us
http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/m...ase-p-171.html and 253 us for a full ms2 v3 kit... http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/m...ase-p-119.html cheap stuff indeed! esp considering how totally ------- brilliant it is! |
Re: tdo5 on 4ag
Its possible to retrofit a obd1 honda dizzy to something like a 4age, but time consuming and more than likey not cost effective when you have MS available.
|
Re: tdo5 on 4ag
what type of guts do they have in them? trigger types/patterns etc? might already be compatible...
|
Re: tdo5 on 4ag
Someone on HR.net actually put hondata on his 4age, but it wasnt as easy as u think. For one i belive the motor spins the wrong way, so u would have to machine the honda dizzy or do some sort of retrofit. I wired my MS edis in 1 day and wired the rest of MS in another day, the damned thing started first turn :D
A few things u might want to make sure of tho, make sure its timed right and make sure its advancing timing properly. I lost my first turbo motor because my MS wasnt advancing timing and well ... I boiled the oil till the motor begged for mercy and spun a rod bearing due to the oil pump failing. It took me two years to get my turbo 4age to run as my daily driver. Been driving it jsut over 2months now :D |
Re: tdo5 on 4ag
you must have been able to tell by the sound and off boost gutlessness that it was retarded to all hell. ----, the glowing manifold and ---- could have been a clue too. how about the temp on the dash? i just cant see how that happened. i was gunna do edis, cause it was the only way for ms2 and wasted spark, then ms2e got sorted, and just in time, so i went direct. 36-1 on the crank is good for resolution though. first gear and wheelspin will be handled properly. unlike with a dsm/miata/??? 4 window cas... those are not accurate at all.
|
Re: tdo5 on 4ag
I have 4A-GZE 365cc injectors for sale, but if you're looking for 440s you can run 88-89 Toyota Celica All Trac 440cc injectors from a 1st Gen 3S-GTE. They are top feed low impedance, but if you are going to be running the MS, you can run them without the solenoid resistor.

I was driving the car while a local tuner was tuning the car, it was a dog below 4500 but once the thing spooled it was mucho intenso. 14PSI FTW, and then it exploded. Sissycakes TTC turned the boost down this year cause he's gay. |
Re: tdo5 on 4ag
just got the turbo tonight brand new for 250

"it was a dog below 4500" is the giveaway. and the loudish exhaust noise from it from the retard... the knock sensor on my girls blacktop failed, and put the ecu into full retard. it was horrid to drive and dead obvious, and got things all nice n hot real quick indeed. |
Re: tdo5 on 4ag
LOL ---- u sissycakes we tuning for 1bar as soon as my stupid tax return comes :D Didnt want to waste money tuning, we are doing the exhaust first then bumping the boost.
I didnt notice that the timing wasnt working cause i wasnt around when we were tuning it, but i did notice egts were pretty high. |
