TDO5-12 Turbo questions?
Hey everyone I just back from the junkyard and purchased a Mitsubishi TDO5-12 Turbo its look like its in pretty good condition no shaft play, oils not all over it, no cracks in the housing, etc. I got it for 60 bucks the guy wanted a 100? But for my question I was wondering are these turbos good and easy to work with. I was attending on getting a 14b or t-25 but I came across this and it looked like a pretty good deal. Can someone please fill me in on some info on this turbo and does it compare to a t-25 or 14b. I will post pics later and thanks for the help! im not sure it says 05 12 on it I will posts pics later today, and it was already taken off of the engine and the guy didnt know what car it was off of! so is it a TD05 or TC05 model? Is this turbo pretty easy to work with on a d16z6? also does it compare to the 14b or t-25? Please any info would help alot! I only want to push 6-7 pounds of boost. This is also my first experience with a turbo. Is there a reason no one is using these turbos in the turbo projects? Thanks for the help!

I have a variant of that turbo sitting on my toolbox right now, I think I bought it from dustin. TC05, it has the different style compressor housing, along with the odd 3 bolt flange exhaust housing. Rumor has it they are 8psi. But the Wastegate actuators have a threaded rod I beleive? you could adjust it that way. As far as it working ok on a Z6? absoultly.. it should do pretty decent with the proper fuel/ignition setup.

thanks for the info everyone. Well i just need a few more parts for my setup and then im gonna start putting it all together. Well once I start putting it together ill prolly ask a thousand more questions so be ready.

oh yah and when i spin the blades on the turbo is it suppose to spin like a few rotations or just like one or two. Theres some resistance . Also how do you know if your turbo needs a rebuild?

Well if your turbo has some resistance then i think it will need a rebuild. i think you can go to the guy next door and he will know how to do everything! OH yea, those videos on that webpage r tight, who's badass crx is that?

I have one of these turbo's as well. Only problem with mine is it DOES have resistance when you try to spin the turbine and one or two of the fins is a lil dented, and the center section is turned the wrong way so the oil return is pointed upwards instead of downwards..I'm nervous about taking it apart to see if rotating the center will free the turbine up to spin or anything. Does anyone know if the parts for this turbo and a 14b are interchangeable?? I have a 14b that spins fine and looks GREAT..except it has BIG ------' cracks(DOHH!!) in the exhaust housing. Could I just swap exhaust housings on these two turbo's?? PLEAAASE somebody help, tell me what I can do...peaaace
