I dont get what the deal with this "small" stuff is. Most guys on here dont have displacement over 2.0litre. Putting a large turbo on will be soo laggy.

Re: tdo4

That's why a so called "Hybrid turbo" is desired. Smaller Exhuast with the ideal Compressor.

Too small of a turbo ends up creating alot of excess heat which in turn hurt your engine. Plus people may think it's nice to have zero lag, but in turn it's sort of a traction control, plus with zero lag you fuel economy goes WAY down and your engine see boost alot more, intur placing it uder stress.

Stepping up to a slight larger turbo like a t3 .42/.48 or even a 14b would give you hardly and more lag, and would be running alot more efficiently.

not trying to thread jack...but I have a d16y8 and a t3 .42/.48 turbo...

What's a rpm I can expect it to reach boost at and does it run efficiently to 7000rpm?

Re: tdo4

Go for a .42./48. It's a good size turbo, and if you ever want to step up, or replace your manifold will have the right flang seeing as 75% of the turbos out there are t3. And if you want a better or bigger housing combo, you can slap just about any other one on.

I know this is HMT and thing are supposed to be cheap, but spend $20 more and get something that is going to make life easier down the road!

i have used a .42/.48 t3 and a 54 trim t3/t04e on my y8 at 11lbs. the t3 sucked and was used only for a very short time. I felt very quickly but the kick was nothing campared to my hybrid and it seemed to die off on top end
