tbi turbo

ive looked and i havent seen anything in the faqs about this...ive got a question...im not working on a honda...its a tbi 1.8 sohc I 4 in a pontiac lemans...i am more than confidant that i can fab in the turbo, FMIC, downpipe, various lines, port and polish the head, thats all mechanical...what, if anything can i do to bump the fuel delivery to match boost on the tbi...i understand restricting the return line from the main injector will make the psi increase, and this works on mpfi but will this also work on tb... or could i drill the stock manifold to allow for a stand alone injection set up to be calibrated to match with and come in only under boost....i can weld aluminum and fabricate almost anything, ive got access to pipe benders and most if not all parts needed, going by the faqs, but the question of engine management on an unsupported platform such as this car has me stumped. AND at what point do i need to step up ignition in the boost scale..4,6,8psi...thanks

Re: tbi turbo

You can do several things...

Use a fuel enrichment device... I.E. FMU or Extra Injector Controller (probably going to work best)...

or

you can look into swapping in the fuel injection from a Turbo Sunbird... I think that was it... GM (pontiac) made a turbo version of the Sunbird or some similar car with a 2 liter engine in it. You can very likely swap everthing over into your car or may just the electronics. If you can't find one you can look around on the internet for GM engine computer information and you probably can get a Turbo Chip made for your or similar ECU that will run your turboed engine.

I'm pretty sure the 1.8 in those Lemans' were foreign-derived (Suzuki maybve? I don't know for sure), not the same as the 2.0 as in Sunbirds. Check out www.sdsefi.com for their extra injector controller. That'll probably be your best and easiest bet.

What year is it. I used to have 2 LeMans, 88 and 90 and they both had Daewoo 1.6l engines.
Just FYI, the Sunbirds were the turboed Pontiac.

That's it! Daewoo! I knew I knew that, but wasn't sure.

Re: tbi turbo

several companies had a part in that little car....in germany it is called the opal kadett, in england its a vauxall, in korea is something else...ive done a bunch of reading and it depends on the source but Holden actually had a lot to do with the desigh of the 1.8 used in these cars, and while similar in construction the 2.0 shares few design features.. i thought about finding a 2.0 version of this car and taking the engine management and turbo out of a sunbird but all im finding is junk....ive tried to kill the 1.8 and have not been able to, a friend of mine has shelled two 2 liter versions of this car..... im going to go ahead with the turbo build and research the fuel management and ignition upgrades once i get the turbo hung..... thanks ...all of you for your help and suggestions...ill post up pics as this thing comes togather and ask questions when i cant find the answers in the faqs

Re: tbi turbo

Go with extra injector controller for additional fueling then... that would be my advice. The one from SDS works great... there are also some cheaper ones...

If you are handy with electronics and or micros you can make one yourself pretty easily...

See the Turbo Projects section on this web site for cars with them on it... Maybe 1 or two of them.

here we go... found a site...

You can get most of the parts from radio shack...

http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/perf/eepc.html

It has many versions that work slightly different from one another...
No computers... all analog.
