Tapping Oil Pan
 

Just need to know if this is a good place to tap for a D16Y7 Oil Pan.

Well my question really is would it be a Safe spot. This is the ideal point where I want it, I am just seeing if this spot will not "back-up" the oil.

well when you put the turbo on mark your pan where the drian line is at a good downward slope( below the turbo), becuase if you just put it in that spot it could be too high and the oil will have a hard time getting back in the pan

Well I mean as far as how the oil sits in the pan. Does the oil sit that high in the pan? High enough in that spot to allow the oil to back up into the line and turbo?

hmm not quite sure the exact point the oil goes up to, but i do know if your slope is good enough you should be ok if part of the tap is in the oil, gravity i guess

oh and a tip DO NOT use jb weld or any other product like that for your oil pan, just get it welded and save your self the headache.

The fitting that's in the pan already looks good. Don't drill another one before you mount the turbo and see where everything is going to work best.

If you're unsure of the oil level, fill it with 3 quarts of gasoline and mark the level. (gasoline cleans everything really well as well)

Thats not my pan thoought. thats just a pan to show you where I want to drill a fitting. I have a untapped pan coming to my house soon. So can u still answer my question about the fitting stealthmode?

a general safety guideline is to look at the metal plate inside the oil pan, if you drill it above that then you won't have any problems for sure. you're taking a risk drilling it below that, not saying it won't work but it will be closer to the actual oil level. when i did mine i used a 1/2" fitting, i drilled and tapped it with a 3/8" NPT thread, it fit perfectly, i honestly would feel really safe just using that with locktite on the threads but i jb welded it on the outside just to be extra-safe.
