t4, t04b, t04e...???
does anyone know how all the different ones compare?...im trying to figure out if a t3/t04b .48/60 with a 54 trim wheel is going to be good for my d16 for high boost

For a 1.6Lt engine -- even a high-reving, high-volumetric efficiency Honda engine. It is hard to see where a turbocharger larger than a T3-60trim is necessary. All the t3/T4E-50trim recommendations only make sense at very high boost and rpm (like +30psi boost +9000rpm). For a street driven 1.6Lt (with max.boost 15psi and max.8000rpm) a T3-60 is fine.
I use a T4B-S3 trim compressor(smallest T4 compressor) and a T3-stg3 turbine in 0.63A/R housing on my 2.5Lt 6-cyl. BMW 325is. (I say again) a T4 compressor is not needed on a 1.6Lt street driven engine. Kevin |

ok well the smaller t4 comp housing with the 54 trim wheel i think would be perfect but i need someone with some experience to shed some light...i previously ran a 48/60 t3 and i think i might need something bigger on the compressor side...although i might just go with a 60 trim like you said, im just seeing what the different sizes are...i dont care about lag on the street, i need whats best for the track at about 20 psi

I would suggest changing your turbine housing from 0.48 to 0.63 -- that will free up the exhaust side and let the turbo build more boost at the top end (but with a bit more lag). That swap (I did this on my 2.5Lt engine and it helped significantly -- for me the 0.48 was so small changing to 0.63 did not even increase lag) will cost about $300 using new parts from Turbonetics (or maybe you can find usable piece from an 1986 Mustang SVO).
A T3-60 (based on compressor map and 1.6Lt engine) should boost to 20-psi (ie a pressure ratio of 2.7 = (14+20)/14 at 70% efficiency with corrected mass flow of 30 lb/min To reach this high of mass flow on a 1.6Lt requires a good intercooler as well as generous volumetric efficiency assumptions, and 8000rpm at 20-psi boost). Yes a T4E compressor can boost to 20-psi at 76% efficiency, but is the added cost of buying a new turbo ($1000 or more) worth it to you? To go beyond T3-60 on a 1.6Lt engine seems to me (in all but the most extreme performance cases) is done mostly for bragging rites. Kevin |

thanks for all the numbers but im not too bright...lol, and i think the .63 turbine housing will be overkill for me...and the t3/to4b i was looking at was only 340 rebuilt so the cost aspect isnt really a factor
