T4 pics and questions

11 Attachment(s)
So I picked up this terdbo for 60 bucks and the plan is to use it with my D16A1. Couple of questions:

I would like to get a smaller exhaust housing, like a T3 with a smaller A/R, but I need to know what housing will fit it.
It has almost no shaft play, there are some gouges in the intake side of the compressor housing, but the wheel looks almost new. I suspect it has been rebuilt recently, but for 60 bucks, it would have to have been stolen or something, I dunno. Does that sound fishy to you?
Beeing a turbo noob, I got the noob jitters about running this thing, so if you see anything that looks wrong or out of place, point it out to me.
What kind of flange do I need for the exhaust housing? (assuming that I run this housing, but I'd like a T3 with a V-band)
If I do run this as is, I'll be trying to fab a SPLOG mani for it, but I'm wondering whether I should go that route on a stock engine. I dunno, give me your opinions and suggestions.

Re: T4 pics and questions

There was a guy on ebay that use to sell turbos dirt cheap. I think alot of them were off industrial type applications or heavy machinery. He'd have stuff of like John Deere tractors and ---- like that in really good condition or stuff that was just junk that had the shafts snapped, seized or the wheels just implanted into the housings. But he did have really cheap stuff but alot of it was really big. Huge ass exhaust housings and ---- kinda like what you have.

I bought it local. The shaft isnt snapped, it spins freely, seems to be in primo condish.

I still need to know:
What exhaust housing should I use and who's got one
If I gotta use this housing, what flange/part do I need for the exducer on the exhaust turbine?

its a beast! that DP flange is weird, dont know what to tell you. If you know the inducer/exducer and trim of the turbine wheel you could try and find a turbine housing with a t3 flange to match it. Unless someone chimes in that really knows what they are doing, lol.

You'll most likely need to swap out the turbine wheel as well as the housing.

Weld a V-Band To the exhaust Housing....

i could sell you my whole 42/63 garrett t3. I dunno for sure, but i'm pretty sure you could just swap the 63 turbine wheel and housing onto your turbo.

Re: T4 pics and questions

If I swap wheels, it will need to be balanced. I just want a smaller exhaust housing. Is there one in existence that will work?

Does anyone know anything about this turbo? Anything will help, what it came off of, model # (or where on the turbo I can find that), capabilities, one of those charts that will tell me it's way too big for a 1.6 liter...
