t3 on a stock zc
 

i am toying with the idea of a t3 on my stock zc. i figure, since i run back and forth from michigan to chicago a lot, i could cruise at about 3000 rpms and not hit boost(i have a dxtranny). is this ok? i plan on running an intercooler and the 450's with the hack thingers dinger. is it ok to run for long periods of time without the boost kicking in? i really dont have any experience with turbo's yet, but i have read a lot about them. im still confused about the 450 injectors with the hack thing, could someone elaborate on this? what sort of t3 should i look to use? standard/hf manifold, or possibly a custom if it works out, its in the process. im just trying to figure out my best bet before i start buying stuff. thanks everyone.

I think you ought to do a bit more research on how exactly turbo's work. I can take my car, and cruise down the highway at 6000 RPM's in 3rd/4th/5th gear, and never hit boost. The turbo needs a "load" (aka heat/pressure) from the engine to spool. When you are cruising, there really isn't that much load on the engine, thus you really aren't boosting at all... now, at those speeds, hit the gas to create load, and you're gone very quickly... hehe.

It's usually fine, but just keep a good eye on gauges... Without boost, the engine is basically an n/a engine, just as when it was stock. Shouldn't be a problem.

Your stock injectors flow 240cc (most anyway), and so by adding the 450cc injectors, the ECU (since it doesn't know that the injectors can flow more) will be effectively dumping almost twice the fuel into the cylinders. The "hacks" bassically make it so that the same amount of fuel is dumped into the cylinders as was dumped in with the stock injectors. This is all fine until boost. Once boost kicks in, the "hack" then allows the computer to dump even more fuel in, therefore keeping the fuel mixtures good while in boost. Did that make sense? LoL.

what sort of t3 should i look to use?

This is going to depend on what you want... do you want awesome top end, or awesome bottom end?

standard/hf manifold, or possibly a custom if it works out, its in the process.

Depends on your financial ssituation, and how efficient you want everything to run. The HF manifold is by far not all that efficient for turbo, but it does work, and at a fairly cheap price. A custom manifold may flow better, giving you a better powerband, and a more efficient setup.

how do you like that dx tranny mated with the zc? does it work ok? can you compare it to a stock si engine and si tranny, or a stock dx engine and stock dx tranny?

the dx tranny is obviously slower than an si tranny with the zc, right now i figure i could run a high 15 quarter, i ran a 16.3 with big rims, an almost full interior, a full tank of gas, and no driving experience(i had just put the motor in). it runs awesome on the highway, im getting anywhere from 30 to 35 miles per gallon. im in college, so i cant afford to go faster yet. the tranny has the same gears as the si, just a different final drive. it gets up and runs. its about the same as a stock si i drove a while back, way faster than my buddys dx. im still a little confused about the hack thing a little, but i figure i got a while to figure this out. someday ill get all the parts amassed for a turbo, probably not for a few years. thanks for your help guys.

we'll have to see. i hope to be under boost by the end of the summer ,but if i tell myself that, i know i'll get let down. i dont know what to do, i just wanna blow all my money tonight and buy all the stuff, but i gotta pay for school (ultra expensive), life sucks
