T3 oil return question
 

the oil return is facing the block, and therefore is 90 degrees off. i have searched the site, and found a few good threads on how to rotate it, however it still wont budge. as of now, i have the clamps on the exhaust housing loose. i have tried to get it to turn, but it seems to be rusted together. it has been soaking in penetrating lube for a few hours but still wont turn. if i cant turn it, is there any good way to get the oil to drain out. i know that is a stupid question. i have read maximum boost and have a good understanding of how it works, however i am almost out of options. any help or input is appreciated. btw, im in the kansas city area if anyone around here wants to take a look at it. if pictures would help i will take a few. thanks.

hit it with a big ass hammer. Believe me you won't be able to "turn it" so easily. You will have to knock it apart then adjust it, clean it, etc... then you might be able to "turn it" in place. Remember those bastards have rust, coked oil, and general grime holding them in place.

you have to hit it out first then rotate it. i had some major problems with mine as well. get a piece of wood like kinda small and long and place it against the compressor side of the turbo, hit that with a hammer and go around hitting it to make it come out evenly, the loosen the bolts more and hit some more loosin some more, then it should be able to rotate VERY easily, you will know when it can rotate. rotating is not the hard part, its gettin it to pop out enough to rotate it

thanks guys. do i just have to take the nut off the exhaust wheel and the bolts around the exhaust housing off?

btw, i have already tried hitting it with a hammer, im just afraid to break the compressor housing.

Don't touch the nut on the wheel. Take the bolts off the back of the housing that hold it (with the tab things) to the center section. Once all those are out, you may be surprised at how much banging it takes to break it free. Start slow, and work your way up to gay bashing status. lol

yeah, i just dont want to crack the aluminum. where is the best place to hit it?

Just take all the bolts out and lightly tap it all the way around the housing. Repeat with more strength as needed. I think if you use a small hammer you'll have to hit it really hard, and with the small head of it the force will be concentrated on a small area. I say break out the biggest one you've got. Sledge hamma.

oh damn. i just went through this last week.. i banged the ---- out of it.. still wont move.. i hammered, kicked. did everything i could. wont move. what i ended up doing.. was i undid all the bolts that hold on the compressor housing as much as i can.. all the ones that came out, i took out completey.. all the ones that were touching the center part, i tried to take it out as much as i can.. then i cut the head off it. then i hammered it out ward and side to side. and it'll break loose and you can take the whole housing off.. and just twist those bolts you cut the heads off out..and go buy new bolts. theres only 3 of them.

^ i dont suggest cuttin the bolts yet.

just rotate it like i told you. unscrew the bolts as much as possible. get a piece of wood and place it against the opposite side of the turbo. as someome holds the turbo down, hit the piece of wood so that the compressor side starts to pop out a little. then loosen the exhaust side bolts some more, then hit the wood some more (remember to hit it all around the turbo) then loosen some more. it will come loose. i spent hours hittin mine then i did it this way and it didnt even take that long. also try some PB blaster to loosen it up some.

I clock my turbos with a small sledge hammer. 4lb hammer maybe? I beat it like it stole something.
