T3 install Success!!

After finally having the time and cash to get my ---- together and install my garrett T3 ive had laying around my shop for 5 years, im very glad to say it was worth all the blood sweat n tears it took for the job... it took 12 hours thanks to the douchebag who sent me the wrong fkin head gasket, but it was well worth the wait, my setup is capable of 25psi+ if i find the need to send my pistons to the ground... so a new head gasket and 90 degrees extra on my head studs is what you need for enthusiastic daily driving.. im using a manual boost contoler and a boost gauge to monitor the boost, i keep it round 15-20 psi due to the 300 000K wear on the cylnder walls.. eventually i'll need to redo my bottom end if i want to go any further in my moifications... for now, i simply adjusted my fuel overall fuel screw and modified my boost pin on my fuel pump to richen up the now recently lean air mixture provided by the T3, it has alot more volumetric efficiency than the old K03 I had on it... (which i plan on puting on my accord ;D..) Im currently running my downpipe as an exaust system, is about a foot long, so it makes a nice grunt, the muffler in back is basiccally a prop! i have more moifications planned but no more money... if anyone has any suggestions, im all ears, thanks to all.

AccordNation: Are you on vwdiesel.net ??? My buddy Dave@passengerdiesel just made 193whp on a 1.6 idi with a 1.9 head. I wouldn't worry about the extra 5psi I have run 35psi forever and never had a problem (other then blowing turbo's from overspinning them. In reality that turbo just starts pushing hot air after 24psi or so anyway.

Its a diesel, 8 valves are all it needs, trust me... combustion pressure is more than double, almost triple that of a gas engine, thats where the torque is.. my engine stock is supposed to have around 575 psi 0f combustion pressure.. I know someone with basically the same setup as mine and hes dyno tested over 300 ft-lb of torque at the wheels...

Re: T3 install Success!!

I forgot to mention the totaL cost of the build: around 550!
-$100 T3 ( i got a deal, its like new...)
-$30 used manifold
-$20 couplings
-$100 FMIC (ebay)
-$100 piping and oil lines
-$150 new head gasket and headstuds
-$25 boost guage
-$25 air filter
total- $475
if your not a mecanic, you might wanna add a good sum to that for labour... lucky for me, i had to do it all myself..

Diesel is cool for that. Big torque at low rpm. But I still love high rpm tho. :)

Re: T3 install Success!!

I've seen some gasoline-powered mazda mx-6's/ford probes making 400lb/tq by 3k rpm, but were only at 450whp becuase the torque dropped like a rock...very similar to typical diesels.

The problem is a lack of flow restricts your powerband. 300lb/tq at 2500rpm doing 50mph is the same power at the wheels when making 150lb/tq at 5000rpm doing 50mph, given the respective gearing. I do recall vettes in the 70's making 300wtq but only 180whp, and were slower than ----.

I won't deny that it makes for a peppy daily driver. :y
