T3 Compressor Swap .42 to .60

I have a garrett t3 .42\.48 that i bought on ebay remanufactured.
After much research i quickly realized that there is no way this
turbo is going to support power throughout the rpm range on my
gs-r with a b18c1. I have thought about selling the turbo and getting
another, but i think i will take too much of a loss that way.

My thought was to swap the compressor side to a .60.
I was trying to follow a few threads on here but they either
got hijacked half way through or never got to the point.

If i was to do this

1. What would be involved? Is it pretty much plug and play?
On one thread it said you have to machine some of the material from the .60.

2. Would the turbo have to be reballanced once it is complete?

3. Is this all i would need to complete this project?
Will the backing plate from the .42 fit the .60?

Thanks Guys,
Chris

Yes, all you need is the T-Bird .60 comp housing given you have a Volvo turbo. Steve did his on a Volvo turbo as did I. He said it will wiggle on the center section and you can grind the lip on the center section (not the turbo) down a little to have it sit flush. Mine didn't need it. We had to do some grinding, cutting, mocking, bending, etc. because of the tight fit and the internal WG. Depends on your application, but really just plain easy. I have yet to get a retune to fully expierence the change, but I'll be sure to post results.

Cool thanks samson.

My plan is to list the .42\.48 on ebay for what i paid for it, if it sells i will invest the money in a larger turbo.

If not, i will do the swap.

I wanted so much for this project to be as dependable as possible for a daily driven street car. Im just a little freaked out about swappin parts on the turbo.

Seems like i would be introducing a chance for something else to go wrong.

This is the parts list that I would use ^^^... and depending on turbo condition... rebuild it also... and have it all balanced... then you basically have a nice new turbo.

Hey Bumble, I have the turbo on ebay right now.
If it sells im just going with a larger turbo.

If not i will hit you up on that compressor housing.
Its 4 more days on the auction.
Are you sure that will bolt up to my garrett .42\.48?
Also, do i need your backplate? I was thinking of using mine.

you would use his backplate, wheel and housing.... then a rebalance and good to go (if your turbo is solid). Otherwise, toss a rebuild kit at it while you are in there.

Exhaust wheel has to be the same size for the exhaust housing.

Your welcome, but if it's a .42/.48 Steve and I dealt with all you need is the .60 housing.
