T3 .48/.60 spool up on stock B16A

My setup is a SSAC 38mm wg with 6psi spring. dual stage turbo xs manual controller. greddy type s bov, home made short tubular manifold. FMIC 5X2.5X15 (core size). Stock engine tuned for 12 psi high boost and running 8 psi daily (low boost).

It starts to get into boost at about 3K rpm and get to full boost by about 3400. Is this normal for the .48/.60? if i'm cruisin on the interstate at about 80mph (~4000rpm) it takes a couple seconds to build full boost. Is this normal, or do I have a boost leak somewhere?

My call: boost or exhaust leak somewhere.
The B16A can make a 0.48/0.60 T3 completely by 3000 RPM.
That means: at 4000 RPM, if you floor it, it should kick-in instantly.

A 125$ preventive rebuild on your t3 60 trim could re-assure you on it's performances and reliability.

do you hear any exhaust leak sound around the turbo/manifold/wg? i think that's about normal. u mite be gettin pressure drop in ur 5 inch ic?? not all setups are the same n not all setups are gonna get full boost at the same rpm. check for leaks everywhere. couplers/motor to manifold, manifold to turbo etc... check everything. maybe ur ssautopoop wg isn't closed all the way causing a lil lag on creating boost?

boost should be INSTANT on the freeway. the times when the turbo spools up and reaches full spool is just slightly later than mine. but I would make sure that its not leaking anywhere. just double check everything.

on the highway, it does boost instantly but it takes a couple seconds to get to full boost. It jumps to like 3psi instantly and builds from there. When I get some free time I will check all of my couplers.

I dont have any exhaust leaks before the turbo. And teh only hissing sounds I can hear are frmo my BOV sucking in air at idle.

Where can I get this rebuild kit? I know the seals are bad in the compressor. Not terrible, but they are letting a little oil get by.

I bought a rebuild kit off ebay

boost on the freeway should be almost instant to full boost. i get 15psi instantly after getting on it "trying" to boost.

i have a .63/.60 on a d series and my ---- spools that at 3500. but i also have a straight pipe from the turbo outlet to the rear of the car.

My b16 and t3 .48/60 setup i reach 7psi at about 4,200rpm. I think i got some issues. I am running 21/4 exaust that is bent and dinged. And i need to tune it more.

that exhaust you got is definitely slowing your spool time, but there is somethign else wrong with your setup to make it spool that slowly.

I forgot to mention that I have a 3" exhaust.

forget the damn 2 1/4" exhaust. ditch it and go at least 2 1/2" with mandrel bends or get an e-cutout.

for b16crxt, full boost on 5th should be instant. check out that stupid hissy noise from your BOV.

i just moved from minnesota to wyoming, and w/ the ------- elevation up here and because i havn't re-tuned it yet, i can't get that fucker to spool up until 5500. :'(

the hissing noise is only during idle. if I give it any throttle at all it closes right up. I dont know whatr it does while under boost.....It's a Type S and it was new when I bought it so there shoudlnt be anythign wrong with it.

pretty sure that some bov's stay a lil open at idle and close as soon as you give it gas

If you're running the SSAC Tial knock-off w/g make sure you didn't forget to put that metal ring in when you installed the w/g...Leaving it out causes an exhuast leak past the w/g and slowed boost response/spool.

Re: T3 .48/.60 spool up on stock B16A

yea I got that in....thanks for the advice though. I currently have teh front suspension in pices so I will pull the bumper and check all of my couplers tomorrow.

hmn.. you got a leak somewhere. i got the same turbo on my LS. and it starts spooling at around 2700-2800. and full boost around 3200-3300

Re: T3 .48/.60 spool up on stock B16A

well, a b18 should spool it a little quicker. We arent that much apart. Do me a favor and get on the highway in 5th at like 3.5-4 grand and floor it. tell me exactly how your boost gauge acts. Does it jump up to a boost level then build?
Thanks

lol, i drove my car around like that for 5 months with the first turbo set up i did. i didn't even realize it until i put a boost controller on and it wouldn't work, then i took the wg off and noticed a huge gap, luckily i saved the ring and knew right where it was, man, what a difference, i was stoked!
