T25 to 14b swap

how much of a change would it be to swap out my T25 for a 14b? the flanges are the same right? but would it sit in there right? would i just have to weld a flange on the end of the charge pipe? or would i need to rerun it? does anyone have a T25 and a 14b that they could put side by side and take pictures of?

The flanges arent the same and neither are the wastegates. The oil feed line on the t25 doesnt use a bango type like the 14b it uses a screw in type thing. Also the air outlet on the t25 is at a different place than the 14b so you will have to change your charge piping a little bit.

---- that then, i guess i'll stick to a t25

Re:T25 to 14b swap

its not that bad. You just need a new wastegate and make your piping a little different.

Re:T25 to 14b swap

why would i need a new wastegate? they are internal. do you mean an actuator?

on top of that i'd need a new feed line.

and i'd need to ---- up m beautiful chargepipes.

I wish I had gone with a 14b from the beginnin but now that i havn't i'm confident i can make the t25 setup work well. and when I outgrow the turbo eventually, i'll upgrade it to a t28 or a big T28

As a DSM owner I'd say skip the t28/bigt28 and go right to a t3 hybrid of your liking.

Re:T25 to 14b swap

but a big T28 bolts right up to the stock location right?

You drive a 2G DSM? Then ya.. its a bolton.

Would still urge any 2G owner to get a T3 mani and go from there, shrug.

i drive a 6g civic coupe. with a single cam vtec 1.6L monster. wouldn't a big T28 be a good size turbo for me? or am i mistaken?

Re:T25 to 14b swap

probably, but for the money you would spend on one you could get something else (t3) that could do the job for less

Re:T25 to 14b swap

BUt i'd not only have to buy a new turbo, I'd need a new manifold, and a new charge pipe and downpipe. so it would all apx. eqaul out.

regardless I don't think i'll be upgrading the turboany time soon anyway

Re:T25 to 14b swap

To my knowledge theyre both the same. As well as fittings. You sure you guys arent thinking about Garret t25's right? lol ;D

Re:T25 to 14b swap

they are the same as far as I can tell, except the compressor side faces a different way (the T25 faces outward while the 14b follows the nautilis formation) and the compressor side is also flanged to the chargepipe on the 14b rather then having a coupler.

yea im pretty sure the flanges are the same and the oil lines are the same. just the cold side of the turbo which is different.

I'll tell ya right now, if you are going to be "Upgrading" your turbo, and want something bigger with more of a performance aspect, save yourself the time and money and just switch out or modify your manifold to a T3. Hybrid T3/T4 turbos are way cheaper than Modified 16g/t28 dsm turbos. And in the long run you will be happier.
