t25 & 14b owners..question for you

ok two quesions,
#1 why do most people face their turbo with the dp coming off the left side of the turbo and not the right side like it does on the stock eclipses? I've looked at it long and hard and it looks like it would be the easiest to have the dp come off the right side so that you could route your air filter to the turbo MUCH easier, and it let you keep you a/c easier too(I'm making my own manifold).
#2 Also, I've been told that you would have to rotate the compressor (if you have the dp coming off the left side) so the oil return line comes out the bottom of the turbo and not the side. Can any one help me out??

For 1, most people on here are 4g Civic owners, and using a DSM Turbo (mounted the correct way) causes problems with the downpipe, Our oil pans have a sump on the right side for the exhaust, not the left side. 4g civic owners have big cross members in the way so we couldnt run a downpipe on that side. Even if you had a custom exhaust manifold, its still going to be very difficult to use the the stock DSM 02 housing and keeping AC. Charge piping, most people run Intercoolers with HMT setups, and the inlet and outlet are on both sides of the car, so when the compressor housing faces the left side (driverside) its way easier to run charge piping. Personally I think compressor side (driverside) and running a custom o2 housing is the best way to go with a DSM turbo.

I will be making my own O2 housing for my dp, so that's not a problem, but if you have the compressor side on the drivers side, it doesn't leave much room for a filter to hook on, and if you do just hook it on, the filter sits like 4 inches from your engine sucking in HOT air.
On the dp I was thinking to make, I was going to have it come off the riht side(drivers) and have it bend back under the turbo and have it come down from their as if it came off the left side...(pass side), you think I can do that?

that might work, but remember, you'll still have an intercooler correct? i mean, cold air is better, but if it runs through the intercooler, its not such a big deal

I have my t25 sitting w/ the compresor facing the passenger side and obviosly my dp comes off the driverside. Keep in mind I drive a 98 civic w/ my ac taken out so I have a lil more room then 4g civics. I did have a lot of modifing to run a setup like this but it worx for me. You can expect to remove your rad fan and switch to a pusher and have some probs routing IC piping around your DP for a FMIC w/ the turbo not fliped... and yes you will have to rotate your compresor and center housing for proper oil drainage. This is very crucial. If you do plan on keeping your ac I recomend you use a pusher fan on your AC condensor also, this should make routing your dp easier. I really wish I had a scanner or digicam to upload pics of my setup. Hope this helps.

2g turbo dsms have the compressor/intake on the passenger side for your info

For starters, whats a pusher for my radiator, never heard of it. I think I am just gonna stick with my original plan and have it come off the passenger side. I'm making my IC piping and welding it all together, so I don't really car it I have to do some weird bends around the dp and stuff, and yes I do have a FMIC, o well, ill figgure it out.

1) A pusher is just a electric fan(Pusher fan). It pushes air through the radiator insted of pulling. It simply mounts in front of the rad. It is better performance wise(flows more air) then the factory pull setup. They are also usually thin, around 2 1/2" on avarage. You can get them at any automotive stores. Try searching on egay. Just get a cheap ones. You can get a 7" fan for less about $40 shipped. Alot cheaper then a Fal fan and just as good. RECOMEND ;D

2) There is nothing wrong w/ the turbo mounted eclipse factory style. I think it looks nicer, thats why I went that route. It just makes all your pipe fabrication DP & IC easier w/ the turbo fliped. I like a challange and it sounds like you do too. :D

3)I also have a FMIC, a starion. You will be very glad you have a front mount after you've fabed you piping. Expect the DP and IC piping to be very close at a point. You may want to think about wraping you DP or IC piping around that area but w/ the FMIC I shouldnt be that necesary.
